Great Beginner Friendly Beehive Kit
This is a great beginner friendly beehive kit. I actually started beekeeping with this hive and honestly it has been a really good box. At first I was a little skeptical because it was wax dipped instead of painted, but after learning more I realized wax dipping is more weather resistant and common than I originally thought. After about two years of beekeeping, this hive has held up very well and I would definitely buy it again. I bought the hive unassembled and it was fun and easy to put together with simple instructions to follow. The screws did seem a little large and caused some minor cracking in a few spots, but nothing major. The only downside for me was that the inner cover did not have a small side gap/entrance for the bees, so I ended up making one myself. Other than that, this has been a great beehive overall. 5 out of 5 Stars Reasons: Beginner friendly, durable wax dipped wood, and easy to assemble with good overall quality.

Perfect. Easy to put together and use.
I am barely an amateur in beekeeping and an ok woodworker. But if you have a rubber mallet, hammer, and a smidge of patience, ANYONE can put this together. I have a pneumatic nail gun which made putting the frames together a snap. As far as the medium and supers, the dovetailing is perfect. I would only caution being careful when starting to put the joints together. Start tapping lightly and you will see them come together. I have seen in videos people scraping the wax off. I did not and was still able to get them together. I've got 2 so far and plan to get more. Both were very tight fit and in my opinion, did not need glue OR nails. (possibly from not cleaning off the wax?) After making the boxes, they were very strong. However, I went ahead and used my nailer to be safe. So to add that they are already stained AND waxed, I could not be happier. I have wanted to make my own buy by the time one gets the wood, cuts to size, DOVETAILS, stains, etc... this is just so much easier. AND most important, the bees love them too. They made these hives their home instantly and have not left. I was looking at some of the reviews here. I had to giggle at some who were griping about small blemishes, having to paint it white (why???), and other piddly little things. I did not experience those issues and again, for the price and quality, seriously people?

Hard to assemble
This hive has great quality material. The wood is thick and strong the wax coating is thick and even. The only thing I had trouble with was the dove tail joints were out of tolerance. I had to use a knife and sand paper to take off a bit of wood from the joints and to hammer them together with a rubber mallet. It was a bit more time consuming to do have to do that. I hope they fix that because I plan to order again in the future. The quality was exceptional and the price was good. The rest of the assembly went smoothly and the hive came with a mouse guard that I didnโt notice when I ordered.

Very nice
This takes a little while to build but it seams like its good quality. My bees are loving it.

A hive thatโs good enough
The hive is very aesthetically pleasing. Me and my family think it looks great. It was simple to assemble but the wax in the dove tail joins the was prevented it from fitting correctly. There is almost enough space for another full frame which I do not like. There is around an inch from the wall to the frame. I am worried that the bees will build random comb in that spot but I'm not sure. If you scoot the frames to the middle it should be fine. But the value for money is pretty okay. It feels sturdy but there is a slight wobble to the boxes when on a flat surface. Overall, if you want something that is just "good enough" then this is pretty alright, you get a lot for the money.

My favorite hive on the web
I love this Hive! A full Hive with tops (both inner and outer(, bottom, two deeps and a medium, all wax dipped at this price is a great deal. The craftsmanship is spot on, and I love that it is waxed dipped. This should give me years before I have to paint. I could probably build it myself, but my cost in materials would be nearly as much and I would have to make box joints instead of these nice dove tails. Also, I am certainly not set up to wax dip. Some people complained about cracks or mis aligned joints but that has NOT been my experience. This thing went together beautifully and looks great. My only complaint isn't even a fair one... I like to convert one of the deeps to make a box to hold Flow Frames, but the dove tails run the wrong direction for me to be able to cut a door in the back and be able to have it swing open. You can see my two year old Flow super I built two years ago in the pic (not nearly as nice as the Hoover box). I'm most definitely going to buy more Hoover hives for next season.

Nice kit
Great quality, great value. These kits go together very quickly with the right tools. I bought 8 kits, and a frame assembly jig. Very satisfied with the quality of the wood work and waxing. I wish there was a screened bottom board option for higher temperature regions.

Love this hive box
I am giving this five stars as it is nicely priced and easy to put together. The exterior pieces are dipped in wax, providing a nice protective coating so you do not need to paint. With Texas heat, I had to order separately the screened bottom and a gabled roof for better airflow. The vented bottom I was able to acquire is also Hover Hives, but the gabled roof is not as they do not make one. My only complaint with this hive is that some of the frame wood pieces had hairline cracks making the application of nails tricky. I ended up using nails on the top and bottom of the frames, as opposed to the sides, in order to not split pieces apart. The vendor is not easy to get a response from, so you may want to be cautious with nailing frames. I did use a small drill bit to pre-drill nail holes to also help not split wood. I really wish Hoover made a gabled roof as an addition. The roof I added is a Mann Lake roof, which was frankly far too expensive and had to be painted just to protect it.
