Bremner Mute Trumpet Practice Mute

This is really good at keeping the trumpet really quiet. You lose the tone to some extent, obviously, but it is worth it to keep everyone happy if you're practising at night.

I was using a Dennis Wick adjustable cup mute as a practice mute before, but this mute is way better. It's smaller than the Wick mute even with the cup removed and it weighs next to nothing. This means I can fit it next to my trumpet in it's bag no problem, which is perfect for traveling (see photo for how I store it). The resistance and intonation are very good. It feels like playing the trumpet basically. In terms of volume, you could practice with this all day next door to someone without bothering them. I bought it to play in airports etc. You can't literally sit next to someone and play it, but it's about as loud as playing a song at medium volume on your phone. The mute suffers a little bit above the staff (G upwards), but that doesn't bother me. If I were specifically working on range I think it would be a challenge.

I should really write this review as ... a neighbour! The Bremmer mute is excellent for what is is buil for: It almost totally eliminates the trumpet sound! For this, it gets a flat five star rating. Yet, while this will be loved by your neighbours and will probably reduce your stress and feelings of guilt for annoying the neighbourhood, killing the trumpet sound in a way kills the pleasure of playing it in the first place. This aside, it's great for keeping your poor performance hidden. One warning: because it essentially blocks the path of the air coming out of the trumpet, it also needs more blowing power to get the notes out and the pitch is not the same with and without it. So, while useful to use, don't use it exclusively all the time. Its good to remind yourself what the poor instrument sounds like from time to time. in my opinion, the Silent Trumpet offered by Yamaha which is a combination of a mute and a sound simulator is a better option but also much more expensive.

I compared this against a cup and straight mute. This mute is astonishing and gives me the capability to practice whenever I like. I used it in another room and people were convinced I was practicing in a room on a different floor! You will probably notice the lowest notes and higher register is a little more difficult, but by far the most effective mute I have ever seen!

I have been using Deni Wick practice mute for years and found eventually that the back pressure was too much. I changed to the Bremmer practice mute and found there was not only less back pressure, but it was quieter, and intonation was better too.

The product is made of hard plastic and is very light. It does not affect the balance of the trumpet. Sound reduction is very effective and reduced to a whisper. You could practice with a sleeping baby in the room and not wake it! It does require more pressure to blow however. The lower and middle registers are ok but up above the staff notes get increasingly difficult very quickly. I’m an intermediate player, happy with the purchase but have not compared it to anything else

A bit expensive but makes a huge difference with the sound

La mejor sordina para poder estudiar sin molestar a nadie, apenas retiene e insonoriza de escándalo. La aconsejaría a todo aquel que no pueda estudiar por molestar a los vecinos.

Buona sordina muta da studio che rende la tromba molto silenziosa. È leggera, robusta, non stravolge l'accordatura, rispetta l'intonazione e con un limitato, ma percepibile, effetto tappo a differenza ad esempio della comunque ottima Silent Brass che modifica un po' l'intonazione, risulta più "tappante" ma allo stesso tempo ancor più silenziosa. Ovviamente quest'ultima ha caratteristiche (vedi l'amplificazione in cuffia e la possibilità di suonare insieme a una sorgente esterna) e prezzo ben diverso. Suonare con una sordina è sempre una forzatura, tuttavia l'oggetto risulta indispensabile per esercitarsi qualora non si voglia disturbare.

Funktioniert wie gewünscht und ist so leise, dass ich in der Mietwohnung gut spielen kann.
