I want to use brass fired in my chamber to make my own modified brass** A: The tap is UNS 5/16 - 36. I bought the tap and tried several times. Then I sent in two brass cases (fired in my chamber) of each caliber to Hornady and they made ones that worked. Unless you are a skilled machinist with a lathe or tools to drill the case out perfectly straight, you are wasting your money on a tap. I did not have the proper tools and failed. Hornady charges $35 a case and was quick to get them back to me. **Q: How do you know the bullet is in the same position in the case after you pull it out that it was in while chambered?** A: Once you are comfortable the ogive is making contact with the lands, tighten the thumbscrew on the shaft. The bullet seldom comes out with the case, so locking the shaft allows you to place the bullet back in the case to get your measurement. I hope this helps. **Q: will this work on a Marlin Guide Gun?** A: You have to be able to take the bolt out and get straight access to the chamber so I don't believe it would work on lever guns. However, not sure on your model of lever, if you can get the bolt out then it would work. **Q: Can I tap a piece of brass I have with the hornady “stuck vase removal tap”? Will the tap allow case to attach to this tool?** A: I don't have a Hornady stuck case removal tool so I have no idea if the diameter and pitch of the tap is compatible with the lock and load tool threads.
