Only for the length of writing a short sentence. At the most. Then you loose ink.

I would say roller ball style. Not an old school style pen.

how often do these leak?

I haven’t had mine long term. I’ve had them for a few months. I’ve left them in the car and at work. So far no problems with leaking.
