Gold standard entry level radar detector.
It works fantastic & it's the real deal. Best value for cheap. Picks them up far enough away that you have plenty of time to react. Will great right out of the box but does require some fidgeting with the settings to not get false postives. That's very normal though for detectors but I assume whoever is buying this is new to that kind of stuff. You can find settings online but ultimately you do kind of have to dial it in to your area and what detectors are in your area. Sounds complicated but it's really not, you'll figure out very quickly what signals they use around you and what signals are getting picked up from other stuff. This is entry level to be clear. This is for having a little fun letting loose for a bit or just normal driving being aware of where they are ahead of time so if your a little over you know to slow down ahead of time. Also just for people new to this, they don't always have radar on so don't think this is just a I'm invincible device you still have to be smart. That's relevant for all detectors. If your up to crazy stuff, just spend the extra money and get an higher model one. The extra features and little bit higher capability is worth your freedom lol. Stay safe out there.

The King of Budget Detectors
This detector provides some of the best performance available despite being at a budget price. It's one of the most well rounded detectors, an easy recommendation to make to anyone, and the baseline that every detector strives to meet. If you're looking at a cheaper detector, it is better to just save a bit more and get this one instead. Range: The R3 has some of the best range out of all detectors, competing against even high end detectors that cost $400-$500, and sometimes even custom installed systems. In tough terrains, worst case scenarios, it can still give up to almost half a mile of range (up to a few miles on open roads). Way more than enough time to react to the alerts. Filtering: Unlike cheap detectors that will randomly alert to radar signals thatโs not the police, this detector gets rid of most false alerts that are emitted by moving cars. Its mute memory feature works flawlessly on stronger convenience store doors, keeping them locked out with GPS by double clicking the mute button. On Ka, the most dangerous signal, the R3 always alerts authentically without fail so you can fully trust and rely on it. Although heavy filtering slows down detection on K band, it can be customized to trade sensitivity for a bit more false alerts depending on your style. Responsiveness: The R3 will alert you at speeds faster than half a second to ensure you are alerted as fast as possible to possible signals. This is especially important to give you as much time as it can to react to alerts and in some cases when you only get a small blip of detection. Sound: Strong, loud, and clear beeps to alert you initially and can even automatically tone itself down while giving you the signal ramp up. The speed at which the beep plays consistently increases and accurately reflects the strength of the signal you get hit with. Compact size: The R3 has a stealthy compact size that makes it easy to fit anywhere in all types of cars, keeping it hidden while still keeping a nice aesthetic. The mute button is also comfortably placed on the front of the detector in the most optimal spots. Programmability: Custom options are easy to program to tailor the detector to how you drive and what area you drive in to max out performance against specifically what your trip requires. Future proof: Uniden is incredible with providing updates to the detector to ensure its databases are always up to date and new features are pushed so it keeps up with other detectors despite being out for so long. This will seriously last you so long while always being reliable.

I like it a lot!!! See mounting photos below: has worked out great....
I have only had this unit a short amount of time. Coming from 3 Valentine One detectors, I view this as a huge improvement and truly enjoy the features that make traveling more relaxing. The "MARK" idea is brilliant and coupled w/the GPS, I can now ignore those warnings. HOWEVER, I have turned-on the "VOICE" and have found that it is invaluable when used with the "MARK" feature: it warns you verbally that you set a MARK for this particular area and that radar may indeed be present. Genius!!!!! Set on "CITY" mode, I get much fewer alerts around town, esp. compared to the old Valentine ONE. Also, it is relatively small, as you can see from the attached pics. The small suction cup mount is holding up very well!!! Mounting the unit at the top of my windshield also provides me with increased warning distance. There are other features that I have not had the time to discover, but will do so.... Another thing, the printed manual is a real bonus, to say the least. It's in the Porsche Panamera S so I can refer to it at any time. Kudos to Uniden for doing this vs. only having the option to download it from the internet. Mounting it was not complicated: the suction cups went almost underneath the liner, stayed fast and allowed the clip to work normally. Next, because it did not position itself horizontally, like the Valentine ONE, I used very, very thin copper wire to attache it to the visor clip, using a tiny picture hanging hook. I used super glue for holding the clip to the unit (I tried Gorilla Glue, the original glue and that failed. With the super glue, it bonded instantly.) Another feature that I like is the beep & voice at start-up that labels K, Ka, Laser modes. Perfect. It IS a really sophisticated detector, to say the least. When I have to rotate the visor downward I know that it blocks the detector's rearward warning antenna, so I keep it up in its normal position 99% of the time. No worries. I highly recommend this unit and feel that I made a great purchase here on Amazon.

Worth the money. Pays for itself the first time it works.
This Uniden R3 EXTREME LONG-RANGE Laser/Radar Detector is great. I have used it for over 6 years with no tickets. In just one year alone prior to purchasing this detector, I was pulled over 7 times with 3 tickets of over $350 a piece. I travel a lot. It gives me plenty of notice to slow down. It can be a little loud at times but that comes in handy if I have my radio up too loud. The volume is adjustable and has a mute button to suite your needs. The smaller mount with the 2 small suction cups does not stay very well in the Texas weather. I just took off the suction cups attached some heavy-duty Velcro with some heavy-duty super glue that works on glass and attached it to the mount and windshield. The larger mount stays better. It took less than a minute to set up. It has a lot of settings that I don't even mess with to tune it to your liking. I just mounted it and plugged it in to my outlet and haven't had a ticket since. The sensor cover on the backside did come off after it fell out of my window a few times when the small mount came off my window, (again Texas weather). Just snap it back on and keep on rolling. It has different tones for each type of radar. X, K, Ka, and Laser. It also has a voice that tells you which band is alerting. I did turn the X band off as it is not currently in use, (as far as I know), in Texas. X band if you leave it on will probably alert to the door sensors at the stores with automatic doors and may even go off with the radars on big rigs or even cars with the blind spot alerts. The alerts start slowly and beep faster as you get closer. The color also changes as you get closer to the signal. There is a separate chirp when you are close to the source. I recommend slowing down as soon as it starts beeping. It does NOT have an internal battery that keeps it running when not plugged in. There is a small (non-replaceable) button cell battery on the inside that maintains the memory when not powered. Note: Laser Radars have a very narrow beam at close range and gets larger over a distance, and it is typically aimed at metal such as a license plate. If your detector triggers laser band, it may be too late no matter which detector you have depending on how close you are. It does not have a stealth mode to hide or jam radar, but in states where radar detectors are legal it doesn't really matter. Although police could possibly say that having one shows intent to speed. So, if you do get pulled over while using any radar detector, try to have it in a place where you can take it down. In Texas radar detectors are legal for private passenger vehicles but prohibited in commercial vehicles over 10,000 pounds. Check with your State and local laws regarding the use of radar detectors. Mine recently stopped working due to being smashed in an accident, (not due to speeding). Overall, I would recommend this radar detector it is easy to install, long lasting, pretty durable, and more importantly it works. for the price, just getting out of one ticket will pay for itself. For a little bit more money you can upgrade to the R4. It is mostly the same as the R3 with some more updated tech and features. I drive mostly highways and the R3 is more than enough for me. With radar detectors, (much like dash cams) you get what you pay for. For radar detectors in this price range look no further than the R3/R4, you will not regret it. Avoid the imitations, you will probably get a ticket. I will buy another one as soon as I get another car. This review is not an endorsement to drive in excess of the posted speed limits; it is only a review of a product.

Good product, but had some issues personally. Need to learn it for sure
Loved it I had to return it due to personal matters, but I think I needed to adjust the settings some more and learn more about it there was sometimes it didnโt pick up cops and sometimes Iโd hear what I assumed to be false alarms but I will buy again and learn it completely

Awesome
This is so accurate! It has helped my son speed demon with many possible tickets. It connects pretty easy. The range is incredible it picks up radar/laser about a 1/4 to an half a mile away.

Once you set it up correctly for your area the R3 kills Redline and false alerts will decrease
I have been running the Escort Redline since 2013, on my recent trip to Oregon from California I was tagged by CHP right at the border of Cali and Oregon. I was wondering why my Escort didn't warn me. The officer asked me if my radar detector went off and I said no. I asked if he used Ka and he said that's all they use in Northern Cali. Luckily, the officer was kind enough and let me off with a warning (going 51 mph in a 45 zone). A day later my Redline "Service Required" showed up. I sent in my Redline to Escort and got the 139.99 service but in the mean time I needed a reliable detector so I purchased the R3. I heard good reviews about it and a lot of YouTube videos from Vortex Radar showed me how to set it up properly for my area. I used it going to Vegas from LA a week later for a boys weekend. It saved me twice going up a hill on the 15 Hwy. I was also very impressed with the distance the R3 picked up Ka signals. It warned me 2 miles before I made visual of the CHP officer in Baker. A week and a half later I received my Redline and decided to test out the performance with the R3. Don't get me wrong, I love my Redline. It has saved my bacon more times than I can remember but while I was driving East on the 60 Hwy near Rowland Heights, the R3 went off and about 3-4 seconds later the newly flashed and serviced Redline (new dual antenna/software) went off indicating Ka band. It did this twice on the way home. I was upset my Redline got out performed but glad the R3 did it's job. I tested it a few more days and similar results. However, the Redline picked up K bands about 1-3 seconds before the R3 but in Cali the Ka band is the one I'm worried about. Now my Redline is on Ebay and getting sold. I love the setting adjustment of the R3. Q-ride, display adjustments, low battery indicator, auto shut off with low battery, ease of updating software, GPS, auto mute memory, etc. Too much to list. The R3 does get extremely hot after running it but it doesn't seem to affect performance. Though, I dislike the two suction mounting as the smaller one is not very stable and the larger one is too big for my liking but ended up using the smaller mount as it less noticeable behind the rear view mirror. Power cord is nice that it as an extra USB in so you can still charge other devices. I mounted the unit just under the rear view mirror on the windshield and I am able to access the unit without reaching for the power cord to mute the unit. I ended up making an mirror cord using and old RJ11 telephone cord, a couple of spade connectors, heat shrink, and some solder (not paying $19 for the mirror power cord hard wire). If you decide to make one remember the Red wire is power and the Green is ground in the RJ11 connection. So far excellent performance and the unit has paid for itself. $399.99 is a great price. As of today 8/15/18 I did notice on Uniden's website that they are all sold out but they do have the refurbished units of the R3 and R1 for 329.99 and 239.99 respectively which IMHO is a great price.

Great radar detector
Great radar detector! I muted the X and K bands, since almost all police radar is on the KA band. it picks up radar from roughly 1.5 miles. I'll get pulses and know they're up ahead. it also picks up radar from behind pretty well.

Do not buy for UK. Does not work without reprogramming.
I bought this knowing full well it wouldn't work in the UK, which it doesn't.. Well it does, it picks up X, K & KA bands very well but we're talking traffic lights, automatic doors etc.. And the GPS database for speed cameras and red light cameras obviously doesn't work because it's loaded with the USA database. You can, however, visit and register to join RDforum and receive the correct update files and UK gps database from there for a small fee. All very easy to do. Its now perfect!

Picks up gatso camera from quite a distance.
Seems to work on gatso cameras. That's the fixed camera at side of the road. And does not go off if there's no camera in the gatso. Not had chance to test on a mobile speed camera van. I'd say watch videos on you tube.

Useless in Uk
Picks up everything except speed cameras. Fixed, or in vans, neither result in a response from the device. Yet to be tested on hand held guns but I am not expecting much. In addition to its uselessness, the mute button on the cigarette plug (which is used a lot) has a habit of sticking which upsets the unit and indicates to me it is not great quality. I expected more from this product given its price. And would advise not to buy.

Waste of money
What a waste of money it goes off after you have gone through the cameras
