Certified Refurbished Amazon Tap - Alexa-Enabled Portable Bluetooth Speaker

Are you kidding me? I watched the Youtube videos on this product. I read the reviews. Comparatively speaking, the reviews tended to lead me away from purchasing the Amazon Tap. When I came across the "Certified Refurbished Amazon Tap", I said, "Why not". I wasn't sure how tall the Amazon Tap was going to be. The indication was that it was the height of a pencil. Somehow, that didn't register. When Amazon delivered the Tap two days later, I was surprised that the box was so small. I thought to myself, "What have I done"? I opened it and was just amazed at how well built the unit was. I held it in my hands and could feel the quality. Performance, though, would be another issue. I had watched Youtube videos that marked the audio quality down, so I was a little concerned. The first time I pressed the microphone button, Alexa's voice sounded like it was coming from an audio booth in a production facility. Of course, this must indicate to the reader of this review that I'm no audiophile. The sound and the power of this product overwhelmingly exceeded my expectations. I live in a 3400 sq. ft. two story home. To check how well the Tap picked up the Wifi signal, which is located at the opposite end of the house, I moved the TAP to the master bedroom at the opposite side of the house. I asked Alexa to play NPR. Click and Clack was playing. I turned the volume all the way up and went downstairs to see if I could hear the "Car Show". OMG. The Amazon Tap is a great product. It is worthy of your money. The best part of the Tap for me is that I can take it all around the house, even outside, and play music through it. The music sounds good. I'm happy. You'll be happy with the feel of the Tap, the portability of the Tap, the battery life, the audio quality and the variety of things Alexa can do for you now.

I bought the echo and the tap at the same time. I use the echo at home and it's wake word is echo and I bring the trap to work with the wake word alexa. It's a huge success lol we all fight over what to have alexa play next. You hear "alexa play this" or "alexa don't play songs for art anymore " or"alexa tell debra to shut up " lol but mostly you hear music and it's lovely. Sound quality is great and by far one of the best investments I've made. Depending on how often we ask alexa questions the battery can last any where from 6-9 hours.Oh and my didn't look used at all. What I don't like though is the mesh ask the way around. Already snagged it and pet hair my lord don't even get me started.

Love it, at the refurb price point, perfect condition. This is my second Tap so I knew exactly what I was buying. The sound is great, very portable and easy to set up. It now has the option in settings to enable "Alexa" voice control vs. the standard "Push Button" access, so it can work just like my Echo and 4 other Echo Dots strictly using my voice commands. My only complaint is that you can't add the Tap to the new multi-room music "Group" capability. I would give it 5 stars if Amazon added that capability.NOTE: I did have an internet setup problem with my original refurb unit. I called Amazon support after I couldn't get it to connect using my iPhone. They worked through a few options and decided to immediately replace the first Tap with a second refurb unit. I got the second Tap the next day! (faster shipping than Prime). The second unit worked perfectly. With Amazon's great customer service, I think the risk of buying a refurb unit is a very low risk for the consumer. Thanks Amazon!

I own an Echo and several Dots, all of which I am happy with, so I decided to try the Tap. Am disappointed to learn that, unlike the other two device types, Tap cannot be part of a group of devices so they all play the same music. And doubly disappointed to learn I am not able to enable "hands-free" operation as described in the online settings for same. Perhaps there are some firmware updates available????I will keep the unit because I can use it on my lower patio where the battery operation comes in handy. Sound quality is decent (good enough) for the price given the intended use.UPDATE:I received an answer from Amazon within about 60 minutes---very impressive. Turns out there is a firmware update to enable the hands free. Problem fixed.I raised my rating my one star to 4 stars. With group capability, it would rate 5 star.

I picked up the refurb model to try out the whole Echo/Alexa system. It is pretty clever, if not useful. When I want to order a pizza, we have two options and neither of those options is to be found in my town so I still need to pick up the phone once every six months to do that order. I love being able to request a playlist that I haven't even made up and have the music stream immediately. "Alexa, please play some soft dinner music", and voila, mostly soft dinner music. Maybe *some* editing is needed there because I am not one who believes The Supremes belting out "keep on crying baby for you", while old, are necessarily what I'd consider dinner music. The big downfall in this unit is the speaker quality. It is really less than mediocre, given competitive speakers of the same size. Those other speakers don't have all these capabilities, but since it is first and foremost, a speaker, I'd like it to at least be as good as similarly priced small speakers. Hence three stars. If Amazon can send out an update, and provide better quality (you can do most anything digitally), then I'll keep it. Otherwise I think I'll send it back and wait for a better sounding unit.
