I prefer a good-quality stainless steel, dishwasher-safe metal, since recycling is more efficient than plastic, but chose this one instead. (You never know what you'll need to send off to recycling one day!) Most of the other kitchen bins are only one gallon, this one is three with the option to conveniently hang on a cabinet door. I thought I would regret buying it since it wasn't the look I had been pining after either, but it's still cute. I do like it! The company is also very professional. I now have the name of a contact person. The company is based out of Portland, Oregon, one of the greenest cities in the US that offer weekly compost curbside pickup. I don't live in Oregon, but I like to hear about eco-ethical cities. I had a stainless compose bin but it got a hole (children banging it around). I got this because it's less expensive and held more. I'm happy all in all. It takes extra attention to latch the lid. I miss the stainless steel lid that just set on top and was already "down" and not letting in bugs. I forget to make sure the latch is hooked and get bugs and smells. No problem when I latch it though.I wish the lid wasn't such a bother when dumping it. We have to dump it several times a week (big family eating a lot of fresh food). So I give it 4 stars just for user friendly features lacking a bit.For what it is - it's not bad at all. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Function but not perfect *by R***P on Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2014* I like the size of this composter. It's just about right, allowing me to collect scraps for a day or two before having to dump it.I also like the handle on it which makes it easy to carry. The charcoal filter is also nice for keeping smells down.What I don't like about it is that the lid doesn't come off, which would make emptying it and cleaning it so much easier. Consequently, it is a pain to clean because I have a rather small sink. It would also help if the bottom of the pail was contoured to allow for easier grabbing when dumping.There are pros and cons to all these composters.
