But I was taught to never assume anything.** A: Those are there to protect the rubbers from drying out during shipping, but you take them off to play. You can keep them and replace them after playing to keep the rubbers fresh, but as this paddle comes with a case, I have not bothered. Though I do put a couple drips of water on each side, wipe down the rubbers with my hand, and let them dry before putting it back in the case. This is just to clean off the dust and dirt accumulated while playing and to keep them fresh and tacky for as long as possible. **Q: is the sponge thinner on one side?** A: Nope same rubber and thickness on either side just different colors. **Q: Which rubber would be good to put on the blade after original Palio CJ8000 rubbers complete its life, to make it even better racket?** A: So, CJ8000 comes in three sponge thicknesses 1.8, 2.0, and 2.2mm. The paddle comes with 2.0mm and I upgraded it to 2.2 mm. Also the sponge hardness is 36-38 degrees. I’m using a harder sponge at 40-42 degrees.
