You can use it as a primer also, but for that super glossy finish, you will need to do 3-4 layers of this. Sprays PERFECTLY out of the airbrush, with no thinning whatsoever! That is important for painting models. I use 25 psi in my airbrush because of its forgiving nature... you will KNOW if your coats are too heavy (the surface will start to get cloudy at first) but it is very forgiving to work with and the coat is IRON HARD. And this comes in a 4oz bottle. PROS: -- Easy to spray -- Great coverage and it dries in 10-20 minutes (I give it a full day if I use 4 layers of this) -- Price is fair for its size. -- VERY IMPORTANT. Cleans easily with water out of the airbrush CONS: -- Odor, but it's a water-based lacquer. The dulling was minimal; barely noticeable. If I had taken more care in applying primer and paint coats by sanding with 1000 or 2000 grit sand paper between coatings it would have been much shinier. A Captain Phasma cosplay at Star Wars Celebration in April had a mirror finish using this method. **Q: Is this a true lacquer, or an acrylic? Someone posted clean-up was with water, so is this used mainly with Tamiya and Vallejo paint sets?** A: It's not lacquer. The ingredients as listed on the bottle are water and polymers. You use water to clean it out of your airbrush, but it also says do not let it dry in your airbrush. If you do, I don't know what would cut it. It's used to gloss any flat finish. I use it on Model Master flats. But it can also be used as a primer on bare plastic. **Q: What is the recoat time for this product?** A: Depends on your first later. If you spray it on thin, you can immediately spray again in 5 minutes. You should be shooting the first layer thin. **Q: I do not have airbrushing gear. can this be sprayed through an hvlp gun, 1.3mm nozzle?** A: Viscosity wise...yeah, I think it can go through that gun just fine...however, the directions state 20-30psi. Doesn’t dull the chrome/reflective effect much at all, seals in the chrome top coat so it won’t rub off. Finish still passes the finger test for mirror. It’s not metal, but for plastic sanded and painted, it’s incredibly smooth. Apply a couple coats, about 4-6 inches away.
