Brought My Explorer Back From the Dead, Hard to Argue With That
My 2007 Ford Explorer 4.0L started stumbling under acceleration and eventually just cranked without starting one afternoon in a grocery store parking lot. Classic fuel pump failure symptoms. I had it towed home, confirmed low fuel pressure with a gauge, and started shopping for a replacement module assembly. The dealership and name-brand options were running $150 to $200 plus for a complete module with sending unit, which felt steep for a 17-year-old daily driver. This unit, at under $50, was admittedly a leap of faith, but the part numbers cross-referenced correctly against my 6L2Z9H307AA, and that gave me enough confidence to order it. Dropping the tank on these Explorers is genuinely unpleasant work; lots of fuel line clips and the tank straps always put up a fight, but the module itself swapped in cleanly. The electrical connector seated properly, and the sending unit float arm matched the original geometry, which matters because a mismatched float gives you inaccurate fuel gauge readings. Fired right up on the first crank, and fuel pressure came back to spec. The gauge reads accurately through the full range, which wasn't a given at this price point. I've been driving it daily, and no issues to report. Time will be the real test of longevity, but for a vehicle this age, the value calculation makes sense. Professional installation is genuinely recommended here if you haven't done fuel tank work before. It's not beginner territory.
