The older version of this device was limited to a 2 TB drive, Does this newer version recognize 3+ TB drives?

It recognizes my 3 TB hard drive.

To clarify my previous question, could the attached drive write malware back to the source machine if the attached drive is infected with malware?

Yes, this adapter has no knowledge of what is "malware" and what is a legitimate file. The write protection prevents files on the attached drive from being deleted/changed, it does nothing to stop them being read (if it did that, then what would the point of it be?). *YOU* will need to take relevant precautions if you suspect the drive is infected with malware.

Anyone get this to work on a Mac OS x?

The base adapter works on OSX, but the write protection mode is is guaranteed only on Windows.

Can I read damaged or corrupted drives?

If the drive is physically OK, and the corruption is within the filesystem, yes this adapter can read it. However you will need 3rd party software to repair or work around the corruption before you can get the data off. If the "corruption" is actually encryption like BitLocker, then this adapter can read the drive, but you will need the password or tokens to decrypt the data, this adapter does not change that. if the drive is not working at all (doesn't show up in BIOS, etc), then there is nothing this adapter can do about that.
