Review: Good for parents too - I bought this as a parent with a 2 year old who is not yet talking. Although the book is intended for childcare professionals, as a full time mum I consider myself to be a childcare professional!! I have found the chapters on encouraging the early stages of communication really useful, and am hoping to find the later chapters on developing conversations with children useful once we have got past the first words stages. Its made me a lot more confident about how to help my child learn to talk, so definitely worth the money. Review: my book - arrived as expected. Good packaging. good quality item.

Highly recommend this book for parents of speech-delayed children!
I ordered Learning Language and Loving It and It Takes Two to Talk. I love both books and found them very useful. My 3 year old son's speech therapist spoke highly of the Hanen method and recommeded that I read It Takes Two to Talk. I am so glad, however, that I ordered both books because I found the more extensive discussion in Learning Language and Loving It to be more useful. Learning Language and Loving it is directed to preschool teachers who are interested in supporting the language development of their students, while It Takes Two to Talk is focused on parents. However, Learning Language and Loving It contains most of the information included in It Takes to To Talk and much much more! An important part of learning to talk is speaking with one's peers and for speech delayed children this can be very difficult. Learning Language and Loving It gives tips on fostering peer interaction and has an extensive discussion on this topic. The book also includes information on different speaking styles of children, the stages of early speech development and how to help children best navigate through those stages. It includes useful information for more stages of speech development than It Takes Two to Talk (It takes Two focuses on the earliest stages including language discovers, early communicators, first words users, and combiners, while Learning Language expands the discussion to include early sentence users and later sentence users). I have spent the better part of two years looking for a guide just like this one! I highly recommend it for both parents and teachers of speech delayed children!

Excellent reference
A bit pricey, but it's an invaluable source, both for teacher and for parents. I am often loaning this to the parents of my preschool class to borrow, and they all come back with the same comment....."wow! What a tremendous book, where can I order one for my own?"

essential for daycare teachers
I found this book to be extremely thorough in describing methods for helping young children develop their language skills. Their method is actually quite simple and happens through the course of a regular day, and regular activities. I would highly recommend it to anyone who works with young children. It is written particularly for educators in daycare settings, but could be useful for lower elementary as well. I'm not entirely sure about older kids, but the methods seem suitable for all children, just the situations would change.

The Greatest book
I enjoyed the easy read of the book. It was simple and straight forward and that is what matters. The information is just what we need to keep new ideas flowing in the classroom. It's not always easy to find good textbooks geared toward that birth to five stage. Thanks
