That said here's my formal review.I start all my reviews at 5 stars assuming all things are outstanding and go from there... so from 5 stars lets do the following additions/subtractions:The toner wand isn't included and I mindlessly didn't check that because I saw the feature of toning and mapping was listed. -1 star because it is also not listed as an accessory and there are no clear directions on how to use the toning feature which many people might find important (personally I'm replacing my toner with this product so I don't care).Upon powering the device up I immediately noticed the screen had a defective mount causing all of the polarizing to occur and show all of the display possibilities as if they were all being displayed. After a brief moment I realized it was because there was a 16 ft cable hanging from the adapter and that little bit of weight was enough to cause the screen to appear nearly impossible to read. When I relieved the weight it instantly became readable again. -1 star for improper support and low manufacturing standards.I tested a patch panel with instant success with the ID plugs and quickly ID marked 3 plugs at less than half the time it would have taken me before with my toner alone. Great! This process was clearly documented and easy to follow and easy to execute. +1 starI tested the length of a known good network cable that was verified by the device to be good (all 4 pairs tested almost instantly which saves me time from previous testers... very nice) 1st pair tested at 16 feet, 2nd pair 16 feet, 3rd pair 15 feet, 4th pair 17 feet, 1st pair 15 feet, 2nd pair 17 feet, 3rd pair 16 feet, 4th pair 15 feet. The distance variation at such a short length is far more than I would have hoped. -1 star.I haven't used this in a live environment and only went through the length test because the purpose of me getting this was the ability to find how far into a cable a short or an open was. I had a few situations over the last year where cables were cut or damaged (IE: I had a coupler blown apart by a lightning strike in a roof and a switch blown up another building over... after replacing the switch it took me forever to find there was a coupler hiding in a roof that was needing to be replaced) and I'm really hoping the length to short/open ends up being a time saver for me. If I find it's not reliable enough I will likely come back and remove another star and if it ends up being more reliable than it appeared in testing I'll add back the star in the future.I hope you found this review helpful.Update:I tested this on a 305 ft cable and it measured 2 of the pairs at 315/316 feet and one at 306. The other pair it marked at 270. I terminated and tested the cable to see it worked perfectly fine and there was no open issue 35ft short of the end with the final pair. The length testing that I originally purchased this for seems to be extremely flakey and not something I can depend on. I've removed an additional star because the screen came with a scratch that I didn't notice in my house and when I went to wipe it off it got a couple more surface scratches. I feel like someone who uses this on a regular basis would not be able to easily read the screen due to it's low quality output and extremely soft plastic cover used to protect the screen below. I specifically purchased this model because of the hardshell case. As with many tools of this type, it’s worth the extra money to buy the one with a case. Unless you protect your tester it will get banged up riding in the back of your truck. The case is formfitting with each component having its own cutout.Included with the kit is an alligator clip to RJ45, a short 6c line cord, a RJ45 jack saver, 12 RJ45 identification plugs, 8 Coax identification plugs, male and female BNC to Coax adaptors and two Coax couplers.The tester itself has a solid feel to it and does not feel like a lightweight junk tester. Usage itself is intuitive except the toning feature (little more on this later). The manual that comes with the tester is poorly written, however, there is not much that you cannot easily figure out. If you want to test the wire length simply press the length button. To test the Data continuity, press data etc..To verify the identification of your wires, simply plug in one of the RJ-45 id plugs on one end and on the other, plug in the tester. Couldn’t be simpler.As for using your tool as a toner, the manual does not give the correct instruction, however it is easy to set the mode once you know how. You have to turn off the tester and then press and Hold the Tone / Length button until it displays TONE on the screen, then you press the cable type (Data, Voice or Video). I had to email Platinum Tools to find out how.
