desertcart.com: Your True Home: The Everyday Wisdom of Thich Nhat Hanh: 9781590309261: Hanh, Thich Nhat, McLeod, Melvin: Books Review: Thich Nhat Hanh’s Greatest Hits - This is a wonderful book, sort of like Thich Nhat Hanh’s greatest hits. Melvin McLeod, editor of The Shambhala Sun, has combed through more than 30 writings by Thich Nhat Hanh or interviews with him to select the 365 passages in this book. The writings span nearly 40 years of Thich Nhat Hanh’s insight. The book ranges widely from succinct explanations of profound Buddhist teachings to simple but sincere and helpful daily motivations to do good in the world. I suppose this book was designed for readers to finish in a year, absorbing one passage a day for 365 days. I’ve had this book for a while now and am discovering that it is a book for a lifetime. I meditate on / practice with one passage for days at a time, and am slow to move through the book. Highly recommended. I’ll leave you with this quote. I opened the book just now at random and discovered this succinct gem: #246, One Contains All. When you touch one thing with deep awareness, you touch everything. The same is true of time. When you touch one moment with deep awareness, you touch all moments. According to the Avatamsaka Sutra, “The one contains the all.” If you live one moment deeply, that moment contains all the past and all the future in it. Review: Beautiful daily guidings! - An absolute gem of daily mindfulness opportunities from one of the greatest of all time! Powerful enough to read over and over and over again.

A must-have if you love Buddhist thought and teaching
I purchased this copy as a gift, but I have my own copy as well. This book is a delightful companion. I love learning about other religions through reading more in-depth spirituality books rather than just the basics of a religion (both are crucial, but the former is far more important in my mind - it gets to the heart of the religion). So, I started with this book (among others) to learn about Buddhism and fell in love with Thich Nhat Hanh's writing. I have several books by him now. Regardless of what religion you practice, this book is a gem. It's broken down into bite-sized pieces that you can apply to any religious tradition in some way. Honestly, I love this book. It's one of my absolute favorites and lives on my end table for easy access. Wonderful all the way around!

Home is where your Heart is
my book arrived just today, but i already know that i love it and shall bring it with me on morning and evening walks and for the waiting time before lectures concerts and theater. how do i know this to be true? i have read and cherished a copy of this book for two years now - a present from my sister on my moving to my new home. my original book has not only its pages covered with penciled thoughts and dog-eared at most corners, but it has literally been torn in half (the binding subsequently protected with linen tape) so that i can slip it easily in my pocket. if you are organized and methodical and possess self-control, there is one brand-new thought for each of the year's days. if you are like me, you'll dive in at whim - opening it at random, flitting back and forth. the gentle philosophy and subsequent suggestions you will read, are repetitive - they will set up a cadence in your thought - of the little truths that are the whole of truth and the simple ways to truly experience and appreciate your meaningful joyful life.... and i wish for you, too, the well-being that i have experienced from MY copy (copies) of this book(s)....

Daily Reflection
Has been very intriguing and thought provoking daily read. With having 365 different passages, allows for one to be read per day to reflect on the message and how to apply it to your life.

Watch Out for the Horrible Editing
While I really enjoyed this book, I feel I must comment on the horrible editing. I tried very hard not to allow it to take away from the experience, but it was difficult. Whoever edited this book should not be editing anything. It is that simple and, (unfortunately), that component did take away some of the joy of reading the text, as I was constantly correcting the editing so that I could truly understand the essence of what was being communicated. I enjoy every inspiring word that Thich Nhat Hanh writes and this book is no exception to that. Re-reading his works, I find new meanings and messages in the content. I suggest using it as a daily source of inspiration for a full calendar year.

I have this book and love reading one page a day so bought another as a gift for a friend. Excellent pieces of advice to live your life in a more mindful way.

I recommend other books by Thich Nhat Hanh like "The Heart of the Buddha's Teaching" or "The Art of Living". I am not a fan of this snackable content, consumption-oriented type of book. But I could see it being welcomed by those who like some reminders to start their day off with, or a little comforting something before dozing off at night.

My favourite yoga teacher read one passage from this book at the beginning of class one day and it was exactly what I needed to hear that day. It was so powerful I asked her which book she read it from. I bought it, read it cover to cover, tagged favourite passages and it is a book that I flip through regularly. Love this so much I have purchased several as gifts. Highly recommended.
