It's a great first microscope, but an adult needs to be there to help the child learn to use it. Adjustment of the height, and magnification is necessary; same as with a more expensive microscope. Our first project, after examining the included slides, was to compare samples of my hair and hers. She was totally in awe to see the hairs at 300x. At 900x she was speechless. I feel that this was a great investment, not only as a teaching instrument, but also as an activity that can be shared. Review: Nephew still uses it - I was visiting my nephew and saw this microscope that I bought a while back and had forgot I even bought it for him. He seems to still use it! Nice! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great for young kids *by L***S on January 20, 2006* Although she's younger than the recommended age, my 5 year-old daughter got this microscope as a gift and it has been great. She has trouble seeing through a regular viewer, so the screen on the side is a huge help. I brought it in to her Kindergarten class and showed the kids various slides and they were thrilled. I did find it difficult to see clearly through the eyepiece, which may explain the criticism by older kids.
