Review: I Love this Book! - I wanted to read this book 10 years ago after the first time I visited Belize. It is the story of a biologist who moved to Belize with her husband to farm the jungle and grow their own organic herbal remedies. By circumstance she meets this old traditional healer, gains his confidence and studies local herbal medicine with him for 20 years. It is a moving story, and over time most of the medicines were validated by scientific study back in the States and the active ingredients identified. It is an uplifting story and I made personal connections throughout the story because I have spent time in almost every location mentioned in the book. In fact, I couldn't have been any more than a couple miles from their farm on the Macal river. An easy read that is so intriguing you just keep turning the pages. This is a must read. It reminds us that we have lost so much important knowledge over the eons.

I wanted to read this book 10 years ago after the first time I visited Belize. I was a little skeptical about how well this biography would be written by a doctor, but it actually very well done. The friendship between the author and Don Panti is heart warming. Truly an incredible story. I also really appreciated learning more about jungle plants. Was a great read on my vacation in Belize.
