Nearly perfect portable speakers
Ok let's get the inevitable out of the way - these speakers do not sound as good as the Bose SoundDock speaker. My roommate has the Bose and they sound really nice. However the Bose speakers are also $200 more expensive and are not portable (well now they have a portable model but that's even $300 more expensive!). So how does the mm50 sound? It's exponentially better than low-end budget speakers. I used to have the Pacific Rim cube (about $30 when I bought it) and the mm50 blows it away. Using the Bose as a reference point, I'd say if the Bose were a 10, then the mm50 would be about 7 to 8. The sound is definitely above average for a speaker as compact as it is. But on an absolute scale it won't measure up to the more expensive speakers. Why rate it 5-stars then? Simply because it's a great value for the money (about $100). The sound quality is excellent for a speaker in this price range. It is loud enough to more than adequately fill up a bedroom with sound. I've even used in a small gym and found that it provided decent sound for a relatively large room. As far as extras, it comes with a semi-rigid carrying case, wall adapter, some docking adapters (fits my mini and 5G ipod, don't know about the newest ipods though) and IR remote. The remote is really the only disappointing aspect as it only works from about 10-15 feet and you almost have to be directly in front of the speakers for it to work. But since a lot of speakers in this price range don't even have a remote, I consider it a minor issue. So if you want something portable that sounds pretty good on an absolute basis (and great for the price), then this is the speaker for you. The bottom line is that you're not likely to find anything significantly better in terms of sound quality or features unless you're willing to move up into the SoundDock price range ($300+). Update 10/28/07 Logitech has released a newer version of this speaker called the Pure-Fi Anywhere. I haven't heard it yet myself, but a couple Ipod-related sites I frequent gave it positive reviews, saying it was even better than the mm50. Since it is new you likely won't find it quite as cheap (msrp is $150). But it might be worth checking out if you don't mind spending a bit more money to get what is supposed to be an even better speaker.

Great sound and great features, at a reasonable price.
The Logitech mm50 is a great product with several appealing features that make it stand alone in the ipod speaker department. What sets this unit apart from most others is its 10-hour rechargable battery and sleek, stylish figure. The unit stands on two sturdy, retractable legs and packs away in a sexy, slim case that also houses the units remote control. The mm50 offers above average sound quality for a unit its size. The volume can be cranked pretty loud before losing some integrity. The unit even has a sound enhancement feature that does help. However, if your obsessed with sound quality and you don't mind putting up the money, a higher end model such as the Bose unit may be more appropriate. Overall, it is a lightweight, reliable unit that is perfect for camping trips and other situations that call for a portable music source. The rechargeable battery is a great convenience. And while there are other smaller, less expensive units, the Logitech mm50 offers quality and good features at a fair price.

Very nice product
Wow. This thing is great. The perfect compromise of size, sound, and price. Why would someone want to get a boombox-sized set of iPod speakers? If you're willing to lug that you're probably gonna be in a place with a speaker set anyway. And the super-small ones are nice, but for the sound quality, why not just get a pair of non-powered speakers? These are perfect. Decent bass, decent treble, small enough to fit in a backpack very easily - and that's made more doable by the nice case it comes with. The battery lasts about as long as they claim - I've gotten a couple of full afternoons out of it before it ran out. The auxiliary-in and remote are nice, too. The only flaw is the fact that the iPod just kind of sits on the dock with nothing else to secure it - I used some duct tape to jury rig a "sleeve" with cutout window for the click wheel. Oh, and one more, if you leave it on with no iPod or sound coming out, the batteries will still get drained. So remember to turn it off! In light of these I'd give it 4.5 stars but I can round up.

I loved it until...
..I heard the Altec Lansing im7. I bought the logitech mm50 after listening to all my options at Circuit City. I liked how it was so small and portable. I ordered it from Amazon. I liked not worrying about batteries and the sound filled a small room, except when I would play movies on it the sound at full blast was not very loud. Since that is partly why I bought an ipod video- this was not good. So I returned it. I did a great deal more research and learned about Altec Lansing im7. I read every professional review I could find. They all raved about it and rated as high as the upper-end models (e.g. bose and klipsch). I decided to ordered it for $50 more. When I got it, the difference was night and day. The sound is far richer. When I showed my husband he said it sounded like a Bose system. It also has more outputs on the back than the logitech. I can even connect it to my t.v. to watch the movies on the big screen. I decided it was well worth the extra money. It is like having a portable home theatre sound. I probably would have rated the logitech mm50 a 4 star if I never compared the difference to the Altec Lansing im7. It is wonderful. Compare and you will hear the difference.

Forget it!
I bought mine about three years ago, and rapidly found out what all the complaints about battery life were about. The unit has a high current drain for detecting outside devices, even when "shut off" and it pulls the battery down quickly to zero charge. Sound was great for such a portable unit. Too bad Logitech has taken a completely unacceptable battery replacement stance (after originally claiming they would offer a replacement battery!) which you will find hundreds of irate customers if you do a google search. To Logitech engineering...put a damn switch on the unit to totally shut it off!! Offer a battery replacement! Wake up and find yet another customer who will NEVER buy any other Logitech product.

Not Portable, Battery DIES!
I got the ipod speakers, and initially loved it. Thought it was the greatest thing. You could take it with you and it could play off of battery. After a couple weeks, we noticed it would not keep its charge. As soon as we unplugged it from the wall, it would shut off. So we sent it back and Amazon sent another one. The same thing ended up happening. I am disappointed in the fact it cannot be played w/o power from wall. Be careful about the battery life on this thing. For me.....it was about 2 weeks on 2 different ones.

"Nice System for Money"
We'll the reviews on the system were right. I love the clarity of the system. It's quite portable and you have to love the quality of the sound that comes from something that small. The bass booster is excellent! I've been listening to HaDag Hachash and "I'm a Brother" Good look Ram for the Jewish Music! The music sounds real nice and smooth coming from the system! I haven't had a chance to hook up rap hip hop or r/b to my IPOD but I'm sure it will sound nice. I usually travel with a Cambridge Sound Works C/D/player for my business presentation! Guess what not anymore I'm rolling with my MM50! A women friend of mine said this little things sounds real nice and it's portable. The price goes up n down on Amazon! I paid 49.00 for mine over the Easter Break I guess it was a sale. The downside of this unit ..........the power plug has to carried separately....if the battery runs down recharge before it goes out for good etc...other than that it's worth the money. One review stated u have to charge it once a week okay just do it and keep it moving! Get It Be Happy and if the price goes down again I'm getting one for my Boo!

Great Speaker Dock
I have fallen in love with this logitech dock. Now there are a few things that could be considered missing, one is a clock or an alarm of some sort (outside of the iPod's alarm), and the second huge speakers. For it's size this thing kicks out an unbelievable amount of sound, it's very small, it even comes with it's own travel case. Plus, you can unhook the wall adapter and it will play on built-in battery for around 10 hours. This means since it's in my bedroom, I can just grab it and take it elsewhere in the apartment very easily, plus you could take it anywhere else you wanted to essentially. They have also dropped about $20 since I purchased them, so now more than ever these are a great deal.
