Mark Romanek is better known for his music video work, my favourite being the video he did for Jamiriquai's Virtual Insanity, so it was good to see him get a full feature movie out there, and who better than Robin Williams to get as his front man? OK, this isn't really a Williams role, but he does a sterling job anyway. Sy Parris is a photo developer in a superstore, SaveMart, he's quiet, and can give off a creepiness that does make him uncomfortable for some people. He loves his job, and enjoys getting new rolls to develop. Sy has a dark side though, he's obsessed with a family he often works for - and as his mundane life doesn't seem to keep him busy, he gets more and more immersed into their lives. He's a fantasist, but at heart he's not a bad man, just badly guided by his lack of life, and his regimented life. This is one fine movie, which should have won more than 5 awards, as Robin is perfect. This isn't his usual role, he usually likes to do things like RV where he's a family man, and has a comedic value, but here he shows us he can be serious, very psychological and very convincing as a bad guy. His portrayal of Sy is perfect, the loneliness, bitterness, yet courteousness he shows the family is spot on. His dark side is terrifying though, especially if you've never seen anything like this before. Personally I liked the way Mark made this film, and the way he contrasted Sy with the head of the family, Will. The DVD is well presented, and the sound is 5.1 and well mixed. The colours are well developed and make good use of all the tones and dark moments, even Sy would be proud of this. There's audio commentary from Romanek and Williams, which is funny and interesting. There's also a good featurette about how they made the movie, and it's worth the 30 minutes it runs for. There's also the Sundance look at the anatomy of a scene, which is both interesting and entertaining. This is worth a look, and I hope it goes on Blu-Ray soon, as it's just a joy to watch colour wise, and technically.

Robin Williams proves what an amazingly versatile and gifted actor he was. This is a totally engrossing movie, really scary at times but unforgettable. It makes one realise what an enormous loss his death was to the world.

This film is remarkable because it is believeable. Robin Williams is a sensational actor because he becomes the character. I became immersed in this movie from the very early stages. The tension builds gradually without ever losing the viewers interest. It is possible to suggest that the movie uses stereotypes for its character portrayal but this is not the case. Robin Williams carefully and deliberately creates a sympathetic personality which draws the viewer in only to be made to feel very uncomfortable and then repulsed. The choice of costume and prop decoration creates a rather clinical atmosphere, ideal and to the point. The other characters also play their roles with a intuitive insight. The unsuspecting attitude of the main characters, that the one hour photo man has a dark side, relates to everyday life. Michael Vartan's role as the cheating husband, believing that his indiscretion will go unnoticed and will not pose a threat to his happy family life, is well portrayed. It is wrong to say that I enjoyed this movie because its message is serious but I am really pleased that I have seen it. If the success of a movie is that it is realistic, this one is up there.

In this film Robin Williams plays a character so different from almost anything he had played up to that point that it comes as something of a shock, but also a real eye opener. Williams plays Sy Parrish, a lonely, introverted, repressed man whose sole joy in life comes from working at the photo processing lab at the local mall. Parrish clearly lives vicariously through the images he prints for his customers, ordering extra prints for himself of his favourite customers, the seemingly perfect Yorkin family. That Sy simply wants to connect with another human being is evident early on with his slightly awkward exchanges with mother and son, but it is also clear that this quiet and slightly strange man is not as harmless as he seems, with the early reveal of Sy's apartment wall, covered in prints of his favourite family being a clear indicator that something is very wrong with this man. So when Mr Yorkin ruins Sy's illusion of the perfect family in a very obvious way to us but very shocking to Sy, it is obvious that something bad is going to happen. This film could easily have been yet another yuppie nightmare/crazed stalker thriller along the lines of Pacific Heights, Unlawful Entry et al, and the fact that it is not is largely thanks to two things. Firstly, the film is directed by Mark Romanek, a former music video director, and as a result of this the film looks amazing, with the almost alien world of the SavMart Mall contrasting brilliantly with the warm autumnal colours of the Yorkin's ideal world. On top of the look he brings to the film, Romanek controls the pace of the film amazingly well, revealing just enough to keep the viewers constantly hooked. And secondly, there is Williams' amazing central performance. In a role that dominates the entire film from start to finish, he makes Sy into much more than the one dimensional nut-job he could easily have been portrayed as. Williams succeeds in making Sy a genuinely sympathetic character, a man who wants nothing more than to belong, but has no idea how to go about this. His soft spoken narration throughout the film reveals as much about him as anything else, and even when Sy exacts his revenge, he still emerges as the most tragic character in the entire movie. '

We know Robin Williams can do funny but he can also hold his head up high next to the likes of Pacino and De Niro! In this drama he plays a store manager (Seymour Parrish) at a photo processing shop inside a large supermarket. He takes great pride in his work and is always polite and friendly with his customers - one customer in particular he takes a liking too, Nina, played by Danish actor, Connie Nielsen. Initially he is just his usual over-friendly self but things get deeper when he imagines his friendship becoming something more - this is mostly played out as dream sequences where he sees himself being a close friend of the family and there children. Things take a twist when a new lady brings in a roll of film to be developed, while Seymour is processing the film he notices intimate photos of the lady with Nina's husband! The film unfolds into an intriguing thriller as Seymour intervenes. Without question one of Robin Williams best films, worthy of a place in everyone's collection!

This has to be one of Robin Williams best roles.. if you haven't seen this film buy watch it get creeped out and enjoy this great thriller

One Hour Photo mit Robin Williams habe ich schon vor vielen Jahren gesehen und schon damals war ich wirklich sehr begeistert. Leider ist der Film etwas in Vergessenheit geraten, doch nun endlich habe ich das gute Stück in meinem Regal stehen. One Hour Photo zeigt die wirklich unglaublich traurige und verstörende Geschichte eines Fotolaboranten, Seymour Parrish, der die Fotos einer scheinbar perfekten Famile entwickelt, von der er völlig besessen ist. Im Laufe des Filmes wird jedoch klar, diese Familie ist gar nicht so perfekt wie es nach Außen den Anschein erweckt. Mit dieser Tatsache kommt Sy jedoch nicht zurecht, wodurch für ihn eine Welt zerbricht und er letztendlich ausflippt. Die Geschichte, die sich hinter der Hauptfigur verbirgt und sich dem Zuschauer nach und nach zu erkennen gibt, ist wirklich traurig und sehr ergreifend. Robin Williams gelingt es perfekt, diese psychisch kranken Persönlichkeit darzustellen. Auch wenn das vielleicht nicht die richtige Reaktion ist, ich hatte durchgehend Mitleid mit Sy und war gegen Ende des Filmes richtig geschockt und habe auch noch Tage später über das Handeln der Personen nachgedacht. Dieser Thriller weiß wirklich in jeder Hinsicht zu überzeugen. Die Schauspieler sind klasse, die Atmosphäre verdeutlicht die Einsamkeit, die die Hauptfigur rund um die Uhr durchlebt und letztendlich ist auch die Musik wirklich passend. One Hour Photo zeigt, dass Thriller durch eine ruhige Art durchaus fesselnd und überzeugend sein können. Eine klare Kaufempfehlung gibt es von mir.

Esta película llegó a la pantalla chica en muchas ocasiones, pero por alguna extraña razón, no se comercializó de manera correcta en México. Al menos yo, como coleccionista, batallé bastante en encontrarla y terminé comprando un dvd región 1 que después cambiaría por esta versión en blu ray. La película es una joya, viene doblada al español e incluye subtítulos en español por si se desea disfrutar en idioma original. Incluso los extras son excelentes, y aunque hablamos de una película que salió antes de la tecnología blu ray, la adaptación de la resoluciíon está hecha de manera impecable. Viene en caja azul convencional, ya que la imagen mostrada haría pensar que es slide cover, cosa que para mi no demerita el valor del producto. 100% recomendable
