## Description

The world’s most renowned ukulele string maker introduces new Nylgut ukulele strings and is Aquila’s first product to be developed in house to be its own proprietary design. Nylgut strings were developed by blending three different synthetic components to make a composite material that sounds better and stays in tune better than standard nylon strings, but with the feel and playability of genuine gut. An added feature of this exclusive composite material is that is was designed to absorb less moisture than other strings; which greatly improves intonation and tuning accuracy. Compared to standard Nylon strings, New Nylgut strings have a density similar to gut, but provides an even more refined sound; eliminating the characteristic metallic-like tones often found in other synthetic designs. For the best sounding synthetic gut string for ukuleles, that still gives the player the feel of genuine gut, Aquila New Nylgut are the perfect choice!

Review: Quality strings at a fair price. - I have played guitars for years but the tenor ukulele is the newest toy for me and after some weeks now, I am absolutely having a ball with it. I am not sure what strings were on my ukulele when I bought it but my first set of purchased strings were Aquila with the high g and I really liked them. Now, my second purchased set of string are the same brand but with the low G string. If you are new to the ukulele like myself, some really novice information for you is that the lower G really fills out the sound and seems to fit more naturally into the scale of things but the high G is kinda cool too. The high g tends to be more in line for the more banjo style picking and well just more interesting strumming sounds and styles and harmonics, in general. Just now really starting to understand how versatile this instrument can be. I definitely like the Aquila brand. Today, it is more of just having a dilemma on which G to play with because both have their own merits. Probably will have to go and buy another ukulele so I can have both options. Always, open minded to hear and learn from those out there that have the experience so please feel free to respond.
Review: Great strings! Buy some extra though - the wound 4th string won't last very long. - Five stars overall - great sounding strings. Be aware that the wound 4th string won't last as long as the others that come with this set. Aquila's website warns you of this, but the desertcart product page does not. From Aquila's website: "Please read: the wound strings used for all Aquila ukulele sets such as soprano low G, concert low G, tenor low G, baritone in guitar tuning, and a few other varieties that use a wound string, use a very fine wire wrapping on the wound strings in order to produce their excellent tone. These strings do not have the long life span of the more durable but poor sounding wound strings offered by other manufacturers. Players who use Aquila ukulele sets with wound strings please be aware that the wound strings will need to be replaced much more often than the plain Nylgut strings that make up the rest of the set. We advise that players purchase 3 or 4 extra single wound strings with every set. When played often a wound string may last only about 1-2 weeks, which is also dependent on the condition of the frets. This is considered to be normal wear for these strings and is not a defective string. Thank you for your understanding."

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can these strings do a mandolin tuning for a Uke. If not what would you recommend ??**
A: Mandolin tuning is GDAE, not GDEA.
Mando standard tuning is G3-D4-A4-E5 and typically has a 13" to 13 7/8" scale and have as many as 29 frets
Tenor "low G" tuning is G3-C4-E4-A4 and use a scale that's about 17" and have 17 to 19 frets.

The difference in scale length has some additional challenges. You can probably bring the C4 string up to D4 pretty easily. You'll need to lower the E4 string to A4, which means you'll probably need a thicker string and may need to open up the slot on the nut or risk cracking the nut. The real challenge will be bringing the A(4) string up more than an octave to E(5).

As far as "can you do it?" goes: yes, you can bring the uke up to mandolin tuning, but it adds a lot of stress to the instrument that it wasn't designed for (depending on the instrument, you can collapse the top or tear off the bridge). You'll also find that the nylon strings won't like being pulled that taut and they'll stretch and/or break. A steel string will give you a better shot at achieving an E(5) pitch, but you risk damaging the instrument.

**Q: What low G Aquila strings are all nylgut?**
A: The low G is a wound string making it thin enough that you won’t need to file the nut. Once stretched out they sound fantastic.

**Q: My tenor uke is new. Can I just replace the 4th string with a low G string**
A: You can get a classical guitar D string, and use that as a low G string. You'll have to cut quite a bit of it off.

**Q: What is it mean by a "set"? Is it just the 4 strings or 4 sets of 4 strings? I see other products not marketed as a "set" that come with all 4 strings**
A: One set of strings is: four strings that are each the notes for 1A string, 2E string, 3C string and 4G string. They will also be color coded so there is no confusion as to the order they will be strung over the fret board. The soprano, concert and tenor sizes of 'ukuleles can have the option of using a low G steal or a high G string. A low G string will have a fuller guitar sound to it and a high G will be light and bright sounding. Never put all steal strings onto a 'uke . You will crack the neck. Hope this helps. One set equals 4 strings in the package.
