Although the build quality is quite poor being constructed of thin, creaky plastic, the aesthetics and effect of the front (the flames) more than makes up for this and we can expect too much for £12! Infact, at that price point, this is an absolute bargain. The fireplace effect is great and it really does create a relaxing ambience. I have mine on top of my piano and it looks fantastic. Takes 4 x C batteries (I bought a 10 pack of Duracell Industrial here on Amazon) and it's still holding up well 3 days in, after being powered up for 9 hours each night. It would have been great to have the power button at the back of the unit rather than the bottom so that you don't have to pick the unit up to switch it on or off. Better still, this would have been good to have a remote control option for a few pounds more. This would allow you to place the unit on high or awkward places.
