AWESOME BASS
This is an amazing value. I an Ibanez SR5000 and a Fender American 60s P Bass. Both are very expensive. I bought the TMB30 since it is a short scale and is $179. I just wanted this mainly to beat the hell out of it and not worry about dings, dents or damage if something happens to it. Plus its a short scale and i dont have one of those. Ibanez is known for there top notch quality and for $179 this bass is built with the quality of their high end basses. The fret ends are perfect, the setup was spot on, which for beginners is great cause you wont have to worry about a setup. You can just play it. The neck profile is a thicker C kind of like an older P bass C shape. Its very smooth and comfortable in your hands. Action was set just right. The neck was straight so no truss rod adjustment needed either. The sound is great too. The pickups are a little higher than i like so it plays hot right now. But the PJ pickups sound really great. The single coil J Bass pickup will have a little hum when you only use the J pickup, which is normal for a single coil. This is a short scale, but dont think of that as for beginners. Tyler Joseph plays a short scale bass on alot of songs. If you want a great playing bass for a low price this is for you. You can also get the long scale bass Ibanez makes - the TMB100 for i think $200. The TMB30 is outstanding and you will be glad you bought it when you are slapping the bass. So DO IT NOW...SLAP BUY NOW

All around nice bass! Buy it!
This is a very nice and very playable bass. I usually play an Ibanez 505, 5 strings with a 34" neck. This bass with a shorter scale and only four stings makes playing much easier for me. I'm mainly an acoustic guitar player. I swapped out the round wound strings for La Bella flat wounds, and that made playing even easier, and with a better sound. The action was bit high out of the box, but after some adjustments, I found the sweet spot. The tone is good. I play covers:old rock, R&B, etc. I use the neck pickup only, with the bridge pickup turned off. The EQ is rolled off to about 25%. It gives a nice thumpy sound. It is a passive bass, but the eq control is very responsive. It does have serious neck dive, but I chose to attach my guitar strap to the headstock/nut area of the bass. That made an immediate and very usable difference. I'd recommend this bass highly. Well done Ibanez!

Seriously capable instrument at an entry-level price
I ordered this bass from Adorama a few weeks ago. When I received it and tried to set it up, I could not get the action as low as I like without some fret buzz around the 15th fret. Aside from that I liked the bass a lot, it has great sounding pickups, frets nicely dressed with no sharp edges, nice tuners and bridge, generally a surprisingly well-made and balanced instrument at a crazily low price point. I requested a return and replacement due to the fret buzz through Amazon, and Adorama took care of it with no question. The replacement was on its way as soon as I shipped the first one. The second one came and works perfectly, it is now set up just the way I like it and perfectly intonated (it was very close to perfect right out of the box). The bass is a short scale, but the neck is thicker than the one on the Ibanez Mikro so it feels more like a "real" bass while the short 30" scale still allows for easy reach of notes. I have been playing bass for decades and have had some fine instruments, and I would consider this a completely usable bass for anything from a beginner to a gigging musician. I would recommend it without hesitation. I also would recommend buying from Adorama, they handled the whole process quickly and with no complications. The pictures in this review are from a show I played using this bass yesterday.

Recommend this over a Squier Affinity/Sonic
To get this out of the qay first: This was sold and shipped by Amazon at the time of purchase. They shipped it in the Ibanez box that had 2 small strips of packing tape on the sides. The bottom was wet with it being rainy and all. The bass: I'm impressed overall! Especially considering how I've been burned with Fender/Squier in recent times. Headstock/Tuners: 3/5 head-heavy, mainly due to the tuners. Tuning quality can be improved. The E key was loose. Nut: 4/5 they seem to be well done. Only issue is the E is cut a bit low which leads to buzzing on the upper register. Neck: 5/5 Can't complain! No buzzing the rest of the way down. Fretboard can use oil but it’s not bone-dry to the point of being ashy like Squiers. Frets aren't polished but that's fine. They are acceptably leveled without any sharp ends. I've gone through 4 Fenders and 2 Squiers in the past year and they all have unseated/uneven frets. Body 4/5 Really light which is great but leads to neck-dive. No scratches. Had 2 layers of plastic on the pickguard. Electronics 3.5/5 Controls aren't scratchy but more on-off. Output jack in loose. Pickups are on the brighter side but can be easily EQ'd on the amp. I find this is better than brightening a dark pickup. Other hardware 5/5 Haven't tried unscrewing anything yet but won't be surprised if these are budget screws. Strap knobs are the mushroom type which I find keeps straps better than the cone type. Bridge can't be swapped directly for a Fender Hi-mass but it's fine.

Minimally adequate
I wanted a short scale bass because, as a guitarist, I curved it woukd be an easier transition. TBH, I haven’t bonded with this bass. In fairness, I haven’t taken it in for a setup, but I kinda think it should be pretty close right out of the box. The low E was floppy and sounded like a rubber band, so I wound up putting two rubber mutes under the strings, which helped a lot. There is no pickup selector switch, but that’s not an issue for me, I’ve never felt a need to switch pickups between pickups. I guess it’s ok, but I rather wish I had bought a mustang bass, a Squire Bass6, or a Hofner import.

Excellent inexpensive short scale bass!
Really digging this short scale bass! Aside from the awful stock strings, it came very playable right out of the box. Swapped out the stock strings for a set of Dunlops, did a full set up and now it plays great. Punches above its price point. For $249 this thing is outstanding. My only real gripe is the tone pot. Performs more like an on/off switch than a smooth taper, I will most likely swap that pot out at some point. Pickups sound fine for my needs but I've read that many swap those out too. The neck is smooth and makes playing very comfortable. No sharp fret ends. Fit and finish is great! Perhaps I got lucky and got a good one but based on my experience I would definitely recommend this little bass for a beginner or guitar player that needs an inexpensive bass for home recording.

Fantastic Quality for the money!! Not just for beginners
I honestly don't how they can build this guitar with this much quality and only charge 229 bucks for it. I'm a guitar player primarily but have played bass for a long time. I presently own a nice yamaha full scale bass which is a great instrument, but I wanted to get a short scale bass just for the fun of it. So I saw the great reviews for this bass and thought for the price I could get it and if it wasn't good I wouldn't be out much. This bass looks great, plays great, and sounds great. You could gig with it out of the box. Just amazing. Don't hesitate to buy this if you're looking.

Short scale attention aux frises
Bonne basse pour commencer mais clairement destinée a des débutants petit gabarit... Je voulais tester short scale mais j'ai renvoyé linstru qui frisait trop et donc qui vaut un rendu sonore vraiment pas génial.

Great bass with incredibly soft pickguard
This is a great Bass. Unfortunately the pickguard is so soft. I have damaged it just by taking the protective plastic off. Hope you don't have this problem. The second thing I have never encountered before, the 12th fret Harmonic and fretted note are identical, but fretted notes above the 12th fret were extremely Sharp. The intonation adjusting screw only moves so far, so I had to put a machine nut behind the end of the bridge plate to draw the g-string saddle back far enough. I've worked on guitars for 40 years and never encountered this. So I'm deducting two stars from an otherwise beautiful instrument. Not sure what I'm going to do about the pickguard.
