Of course it works, and is supplied with overlays, for many other popular DAW's. Cakewalks implementation of the Mackie control protocol is not as comprehensive as other DAW's. So when you buy a control surface for Cakewalk it is common to find a lot of the buttons either do not work at all or do something unusual.The QCon Pro has a Cakewalk/Sonar overlay and you get far more operational (and useful buttons) than with any other control surface. Over the years I have spent a lot of money on control surfaces by various manufacturers, including Mackie, Kprg, and Behringer, and have been disappointed by their partial operational controls when used with Cakewalk.
