Review: If Mulan Was A Samurai Robot... - It's not often that I write reviews, but for this there are two very good reasons to do so. One is because the figure is actually pretty awesome. The second reason has more to do with sending a certain message to Hasbro, the toy's creator, and IDW, the comic industry in charge of making the Transformers comics that Windblade is based off of. But first the review! I really do enjoy this figure. In robot mode, she can be posed in many great ways. She has a very awesome looking sword (complete with a scabbard!) and she can hold it two handed. Do note that holding it two handed does limit her poses, mainly to that of "Holding sword in front of you" and "Holding sword over your head in preperation for a downward slash" types. Fortunately, with a bit of careful finagling thanks to the hinges that are her internal-shoulders, she CAN pull off these poses, and even a completed slash attack (where the sword, held by both hands, is acutally touching the ground) is possible thanks to the hinge in her upper torso. Granted, for maximum use, most of Windblade's poses will involve her holding her sword with just one hand, but that's hardly an issue. Even better, actually, because she has TWO other optional weapons. One is her scabbard. It can be attached to her back via these small slots on either side of her jet mode's cockpit (however, at least for mine, it only fits in one slot for some strange reason), but it can also be held in her free hand. This gives another great pose: Windblade readying to draw her sword. Try it and it looks pretty sweet! But wait, there's more (Swindle reference)! Have her hold the scabbard the other way (or keep the way it was) and it makes a great secondary clubbing-type weapon! And as I said, she has another optional weapon, which would be her golden tessen (battle fan), which is attached to the back of her head. Do note: Use EXTREME caution when removing this weapon from her head. My first time getting it out made me fearful that I would break the figure and weapon, but with enough jiggering I guess you could say, it came out (just remember to pull BACK, not up). Repeated removal, I noticed, made the process easier actually, but do be extremely careful regardless. So, to recap her robot mode: Windblade is a badness-bot (Animated reference) with three weapons, great poses and has an awesome samurai woman look to her. Some people have pointed out how her legs have some light limitations due to some pointy bits at her hips, and though this is true, it doesn't necessarily ruin her possible poses. You can still have fun pretending that she's delivering a high kick and whatnot. I think the real downside would her head, which has severe limitations in her ability to look left and right (up and down are fine thanks to the transformation). And her heels... they don't stay put very well at all and I wish that they would actually fold further back, or better yet give her solid feet, no high heels at all (has anyone noticed that seems to be a common design in jet-based Transformers?). Regardless, these flaws are very minor and therefore do not detract from the possibilities that Windblade can give in terms of poses, whether standing idly or in a battle stance. Heck, even her wings are hinged in a way that allows even more maneuverability. Then there's the transformation into her jet mode. It seems rather... wonky... Especially at first. Mainly I feared that her wings weren't going to stay secured for some strange reason, but I think the instructions are to blame for that. I soon realized that there are these holes on Windblade's legs that little (very little) tabs on her wings fit into. Get those holes/tabs lined up, flush the front of the wings (those odd pointy bits) with the cockpit and BOOM you got an awesome jet! And what a jet it is. Everything is tight (maybe a little too tight), it holds together nicely and I don't even care about the landing gears because Windblade sits nicely even without them. You can even rotate her turbine fans (even in robot mode, to give the impression that she's hovering through the air). And that honestly is the most I could say about her jet mode. It looks great, it feels great because it is great. Overall, the Windblade figure is a nice piece, great for adult collectors and children in the age range of 10&up (younger if you feel your kids are careful with their toys). Five out of five stars easily, because the weapons, the poses, the transformation and the jet mode, all put together, really makes this character worth getting. And now, as some of you might recall, I mentioned WAY back at the beginning of this review that there was a second reason that I wanted to write all of this, and it was to send a message to Hasbro and IDW. If you don't feel like reading what could be interpreted as a feminist mini-essay, then feel free to go on your merry little way (hopefully to buy Windblade :D ). If there is any chance that this review could make a small yet positive change, or even get the attention of Hasbro/IDW, then that would be great. Because if there's one thing that I hope that they'll take away from this review, it is this: STOP MARGINALIZING FEMALE CHARACTERS! If it's one thing that grinds the gears of many fans, it's the feeling that you're constantly hammering a sign outside your door that says "NO GIRLS ALLOWED!!" with a smaller sign beneath it that says "maybe with a few exceptions." There's no way around it, no sugar-coating it... It comes off as sexist. And I mean REALLY sexist (anyone know about the story of the first thirteen Primes?). Your attitudes have seriously got to change, and I hope to God that Windblade is the beginning. I hope that when you did that "Fan-Built" poll thing last year, that it really opened your eyes. It's not just that female fans of the franchise are there and they want better representation, but ALSO male fans want to see more fembots like Windblade and Chromia and Nautica make appearances across the board, and not to be treated as something "special" but as something that was normal, to be seen and not to be questioned "why are they there." And to show plenty of them, in a wide range of shapes, sizes and personalities (just like the male characters). I hope, thanks to what Windblade (and, in essence, the fans of Transformers) had started, there will be more fembots, in equal measure to the malebots, in the next cartoon, the next movie or game or whatever it is that you give us. Just let this be the beginning of more to come. Thank you, and good night.
Review: Beautiful windblade! - This Windblade is so gorgeous! She has so much detail on her face and it looks so beautiful. I absolutely love her sword, and I love even more it comes with a sheath. The articulation is nice, and the comic is really neat to include. If you didn’t know why they included it in the middle of a series is because that was when Windblade premiered. She is incredibly hard to stand though! Her heals don’t support her well and they don’t tab into anything so they move back inside her. Her jet mode is cool looking, and her propellers are pearlescent. But it is a fiddly, tough transformation process. Other than the standing issue and transformation, she is a really great figure! And excluding those 2 things, in my opinion, the best windblade figure. I really recommend her!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Beautiful windblade!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fan-made figure with a big sword. 'Nough said!
*by L***N on December 19, 2014*

Windblade is a very interesting and dynamic robot. She looks great, and has a great color combination. The addition of her wings laid out and her big sword, and she looks to be a force. The robot mode is really well done. She looks very similar to a cross between the Prime versions of Starscream and Arcee. The only problem I found with her robot mode was her "high heels." They fold out at the back of her foot to help her stand. They are easily pushed back into her foot, and it makes it hard to get her into dynamic poses without a lot of adjustments. Otherwise she is really well done. Getting her into her jet mode is a very tricky. There are a lot of fine movements that need to be accomplished just right for all of the parts to fit together. The biggest issue is getting her winds to attach to the fuselage. Once she is in jet mode, she looks okay. The plane is not my favorite, since the back end is made up of her legs. It looks very similar to Starscream's jet mode from Prime. There is nothing worse than a "robot in disguise" when their vehicle mode is made up of body parts. I think overall, she is a great looking robot, and a good looking jet. Kids will have some trouble getting her transformed. She is special in that she is a female Transformer. She is pretty hard to find, and being that she is unique in gender as well as being "fan-made", she will continue to get harder to find. She is a good figure to grab now, while you have the chance.
