This product is very effective in suppressing GERD symptoms, but is not a cure for the root cause. I have suffered from "GERD" for over 4 years now. The Air Force started me on Prevacid after mentioning the word "heartburn", and then switched me to Nexium later. When I got out in 2008, I started buying Prilosec OTC. Then Prevacid OTC came out and I started taking that because it seemed to work the best at suppressing my heartburn. The meds, when I took them, were controlling my heartburn fairly well. However, after reading numerous accounts recently on the effect of these medicines on the digestive system and wanting to find a natural cure, I stopped taking them. The meds were only masking the underlying problem I have going on in my GI tract (Read Why Stomach Acid Is Good for You: Natural Relief from Heartburn, Indigestion, Reflux and GERD by Jonathan V. Wright, M.D. for an eye-opening experience - he mentions DGL in the book too). One problem arose from the NSAIDs I was taking for reconstructive knee surgery, which the military docs hand out like candy (Vitamin M, or Motrin as some may know it :-) ). Due to the over-prescription and my own careless use, they were irritating the lining in my stomach and caused chronic gastritis. The gastritis is healing now because I stopped taking them almost 2 months ago. I have been using this DGL product to restore the protective mucus lining in my stomach, allowing the inflammation to heal. The greatest thing about DGL Ultra is that it does NOT suppress stomach acid and it has VERY little glycyrrhizinate (like decaf coffee, it's still has a little of the unwanted substance in it), which can raise blood pressure in some people. If you don't already know this, stomach acid is good for you. I know, that's not what the "doctors" say and sounds counter-intuitive these days. However, the short story is (and you can read more about it in the book mentioned above or many other books on natural cures for GERD that are on Amazon), you need stomach acid to break down the food before it enters the small intestines. If their is insufficient acid, then the "mixture" will stay in your stomach longer, further increasing the chances that it will make it in to your esophagus where you feel the pain. Even a small amount of acid in the esophagus feels like you have too much acid because their is no protective lining in there. The DGL helps to keep the acid from irritating the inflamed lining in my stomach and even healed a cold sore in my mouth. For this product to be most effective, you really should take it on an empty stomach, at least a half hour before a meal and chew thoroughly with very little water. You want it to coat your gastric and intestinal linings so that it can stimulate mucus production BEFORE the acid turns on with a meal. I usually chew 2 tablets at a time between meals and after my last meal at night. If you take this any other way, you may not get the best results. By the way, the German Chocolate flavor tastes pretty good. Keep in mind, this product does have in milk in it though. I am not sure how much and if it will have the same effect if you are allergic to dairy products. You may have to contact the company for more details.

Work really well for Acid reflux. Taste good too. I use in place of Omeprazole.

Just received these and they are helping calm GERD issues including tightness that gives me breathing issues. I am transitioning off Omeprazole, which causes bone loss. Using a different medication but at this point, the withdrawal from the Omeprazole is strong. The DGL makes an immediate difference. The chocolate taste is ok, tastes like the health bars chocolate, which is not like chocolate candy, but it's ok. Results are great so far. I may update later. I'm thankful for the people who gave good reviews on this product and also a person who commented on a website about making the transition from Omeprezole. She mentioned this product by name brand and flavor. It's why I tried it, and it's making life easier.

I found this brand of DGL through my work colleague when I was having a terrible attack of GERD. She had been advised to take it by her physician when she was having a bleeding ulcer, in order to help repair some of the damage. I thought she was crazy, but I was in so much pain I would've tried anything. To my shock and disbelief, my pain was gone in 10 minutes! As soon as I got home I hopped on Amazon and bought my own bottle. It's been my constant companion for the last 12 months, I NEVER leave home without it, that is until now. Somebody decided it would be a good idea to change the formula. Why are companies always trying to fix what isn't broken?? I have ALWAYS hated the taste of licorice, so when my colleague offered it to me, I offered her a kind but firm, "NO THANKS!" She said it was really good and didn't taste like licorice at all, so I tried it, and she was right. No taste of licorice. But now, they've changed the formula to a new and IMPROVED formula ... BLECH!!! They are smaller than before, and it tastes like they took ALL of the flavoring out of it. I immediately called Amazon and told them I wanted to return it. They kindly refunded my money with no questions asked. Now what am I going to do to treat my stomach pain?? Guess I'll have to try another brand. Before the formula change, this would have been a 5 star review (10 if it were possible). Please go back to the old formula and stop trying to improve on near perfection. And let me know if and when you do. I will be a lifelong customer ....

The formula has changed, the tablets are a good bit smaller and are more bitter, and don't taste as good to me. Hopefully, they contain the same dosage (or more) of the therapeutic material. I don't enjoy the new formulation as much, for taste and texture, but I have used these for years, and I hope they continue to be effective. After all, that is why I buy them, not for the taste. They have worked well for me in the past, so will give this new formula a try and see how it goes. If they are actually more effective, the taste can be ignored.

The second I feel heartburn starting I chew one of these and sip a little ice water and the heartburn is gone within five minutes. They definitely work better than OTC antacids. Don't expect them to taste like German Chocolate cake because they are not German Chocolate cake LOL. Once I got used to the off chocolate taste it's not so bad. They don't taste terrible, just different than I was expecting. I'm fine with the taste now and it's way better than mint (not a fan of mint). Also, they absorb moisture from the air so I put one of those plastic things that come in medicine in the bottle and put plastic wrap on top before screwing on the lid. That has helped keep them dry. Next jar I'm going to divide into two jars so one of the jars won't be opened as much keeping the exposure to moisture down. If you struggle with heartburn you might want to give these a try. Only negative is the cost.

I've been suffering from acid reflux most of my life however in the past year and a half it has gotten drastically worse. It would wake me up in the middle of the night and leave me feeling as if someone was sitting on my chest. It would burn my throat and I would hear sizzling sounds in my throat after meals or whenever I layed down... it was awful. I was convinced I had h pylori bacteria but tests just showed chronic stomach inflammation. I was prescribed an anti acid which I had to take twice daily. Told by my doctor to lose weight and to watch what I eat, when I eat, and how much I eat. Told to stop eating tomatoe products, chocolate, coffee, etc etc. Nothing seemed to help. These were all things to help ease the symptoms but not to stop them. Each time I missed a dose of my antiacid or forgot to take it the acid reflux would come back twice as bad. I recently had a tooth infection and was given antibiotics. Within the first couple doses I noticed a HUGE change in the way my stomach felt.. I no longer felt discomfort and no longer heard sizzling sounds in my throat. Now I was even more confinced that causing all my problems for the last year and a half was due to bad bacteria. I looked up natural ways to relieve h pylori symptoms and came across some good alternatives from antibiotics. Along with probiotics and this amazing product I have been off my antiacid meds for over a week now and feeling better and better as each day passes!!!

My 5 year old daughter seems to have acid reflux. She's on a pepcid-type medication (famotidine) for kids, which seems to work. But sometimes, her belly hurts after eating. I've tried enzymes and probiotics, which are all good generally, but do not address this particular issue. I've changed her diet, but it doesn't seem to be an allergy. Only two treatments seem to make a difference. Acupuncture (with oils not needles - for children) seems to lower the heat in her belly overall. And DGL seems to reduce pain within minutes of consumption if she has a flare up. I break these in half and only give half to my 5 year old. I really don't know much about the dosage for children, but I know the plain flavor DGL comes in a smaller dose, so I tried that first, but she doesn't like the plain licorice flavor. She tolerates the chocolate flavor enough, and she likes the effect on her belly, so we break the larger (chocolate only comes in the larger tablet) pill in half. I just break it with my fingers. It's an inexact half, but its fine. Very good product.

Ho comprato questo prodotto dopo aver letto con entusiasmo le recensioni sul sito internazionale di Amazon. Devo premettere che sto tentando di smettere l'assunzione degli inibitori della pompa protonica (PPI) e ho pensato di usare questo prodotto. Al momento non posso dire che, da sole, queste pasticche riescano a tamponare la situazione. L'effetto che ne ho rilevato io personalmente è stato un po' blando, magari per gli altri non è così ma non sono state comunque sufficienti da sole per me. Il gusto è molto gradevole nella variante al cioccolato. La spedizione è stata comunque velocissima come sempre.

Pas vraiment efficace sur moi.

Quando si interrompe un trattamento con i famigerati "inibitori della pompa protonica" si va incontro a spiacevoli reazioni di bruciore e acidità di stomaco. Per affrontarle ho provato questo DGL Ultra con la liquirizia deglicirrinizzata (DGL). Non solo funziona, ma ha anche un buon sapore! Assolutamente da provare!
