I bought a set of these 30 years ago for my new high quality kitchen cutlery and I've never needed anything more. I just wanted a new set. I have a Lansky knife sharpening kit that will put a factory like razor edge on even the most damaged knife, but that can take up to 1/2 hour per knife.If your knife edge is undamaged, but just a little dull, a few passes through the Edgemaker sharpening steels, and then the honing steels, and your knives are ready to go. The Edgemaker is like having a knife sharpened by a top professional chef with a quality butcher's steel, but it's virtually "idiot proof".If your knife's edge is seriously damaged, you may want to consider a Lansky system (or something similar), but for quick everyday sharping that will not damage your quality knives, you can't beat the Edgemaker. I've bought them for both of my adult children and my mom and recommend them to friends. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic Sharpening System *by S***X on February 28, 2020* I have used the kitchen set to sharpen a kitchen knife to great effect. I have also used these to sharpen my swords.My Ninjato/Chokuto went from a crappy factory edge to razor blade that can freely slice paper. My Katana...can cut paper now, but I was unable to get it AS sharp as the Ninjato. A little 3 in 1 oil on the steels helps, but it will collect a lot of shavings. I found that 10 passes of sharpen, 10 passes of hone, and 10 passes on the awesome polisher made for a good "set". I had to do about 5+ sets to get my edge where I wanted it on the Ninjato. It probably took about 40 sets to get the Katana to play ball. If the blade is really dull, I recommend 90 degree angle. Once its a decent, 45 ish degree as they recommend works well. 90 cuts more aggressively. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works better than I expected *by D***H on November 2, 2019* Since I retired 4 years ago, I have been on a mission to learn how to sharpen knives to razor sharpness with hand tools only.... no power tools. This set and the Worksharp field sharpener are the two I use most often. Results are very good, but you have to be patient. On a really dull knife, I establish a consistent edge with the worksharp. I then switch to the edge maker. I will do 25 to 50 stokes per stage depending on how dull it was. For touch ups, I use the honing and polishing stages only.
