The popular, comfortable, the long-wearing and hard-working…….zen. People love the zen, with its to-the-toe lacing and vibram spyder sole, it climbs like an approach shoe. It also hikes well, scrambles with aplomb, kicks around town; you name it, the zen can probably do it. The leather upper wears for years and the midsole construction gives you far more support than a running or approach shoe. Innovation and tradition share equally deep roots at SCARPA, a muti-generational, family-owned business whose headquarters and manufacturing facilities are in the same region of northern Italy where it was founded in 1938. SCARPA builds performance footwear for climbing, hiking, skiing, mountaineering, trail-running and other outdoor pursuits. Aside from being the Italian word for "shoe," SCARPA is an acronym for Societa Calzaturiera Asolana Riunita Pedemontana Anonima (Associated Shoe Manufacturing Company of the Asolo Mountain Area).

Solid, rigid, bomb-proof.
Very solid, rigid shoes with hard soles and thick upper. If you want hiking shoes that feel and breathe like a new pair of Nike running shoes, get some Merrells. Because they're more solid and rigid, it's not comfortable to run in these shoes but they hold up better for long hikes and protect your toes and shoes much better from sharp rocks. The lug sole grips well on mud, snow, and rock, and gives you good control for scrambling on exposed ridges or steep terrain. There is essentially no breathability, so you'll want some wool socks.

Extremely hard-wearing. Just get them.
Been wearing these for almost 2 years, every day. Mostly office/around town, with some hiking/climbing/adventuring in between. I can't believe how well they've held up. I thought 5.10s were good (except for the guide tennie), but these blew them out of the water for durability.I replaced a pair of first-gen 5.10 guide tennies with these. They won't give you the same tactile feedback, but they're almost as grippy, and I have never had a pair of shoes last this long. I have a couple frays at the end of one thread. But NO seams have come undone, NO holes have appeared at the material joints, and no gaps have appeared anywhere at any seams. They're just dirtier and wrinkled at the flex points.I'll be getting another pair (if these ever wear out). I can't think of another shoe I'd rather wear for any situation. They look good with virtually any outfit short of full formal.

Zero arch support
This might be a great shoe if you have flat feet. I use third party arch supports for most of my shoes for this very reason. Unfortunately, in this shoe, the rubber at the toe end created a little "crease" right at the wrong spot on my toes. Had to send them back.

Great hiking shoes
Great hiking shoes. Seem like a very high quality build. A bit heavier and stiffer than other approach shoes I've tried, which can be good for tough terrain - but these aren't ultra light trail runners, for sure. As others have pointed out, the included removable footbed is not very cushy, much less so than other Scarpa light hikers I've had. My one dissatisfaction is the lack of gussets for the tongue, which allows rain and deeper puddle water to run right in around the base of the tongue, sort of defeating a key benefit of the easy to waterproof but highly breathable suede uppers.

Will be buying more of Scarpa in the future
Was expecting these to be a bit too small, but I went ahead and ordered them...fit like a glove! Hiked all over NM for a week, no blisters. The grip on these are incredible. They feel secure and protected but also confortable. I have a marginally wide foot, but these fit perfectly with my regular size.

Needs better insoles
The shoes have some of the thinnest insoles I have ever seen. Nonetheless, I put Oboz insoles and now absolutely love this approach shoe. I use them for regular hiking to bouldering. So far the seem like they are going to last a long time which allows me to justify the price

BETTER THAN NIKE AND MORE STYLISH. LOVE THESE SHOES.
I absolutely love these shoes. LOVE THEM. They feel like Nike AIR, but the AIR doesn't go out of the tire. The insole fits my foot perfect. The construction is wonderful if you walk a lot. You can wear them with jeans or dress them up and unlike CAMPERS these shoes are built for hiking. They don't have a logo, which I also like.
