I'm glad I believed the good reviews. Hard to believe it was made in China, where the dishes my mother guarded with her life were made. Review: Well worth the money - this is one of the better machete i have owned, and i like it a lot. It has a good weight, and feel when chopping. The only things not good is the bad fitting wood handle,, and cheep sheath. Mine handle leaves the steel exposed, and it's kind of sharp eating into my hand some. If you are going on a weeklong trek through the wilderness I would probably bring something a little more reputable but this one is a fine purchase for yard work, brush clearing, etc.The steel looks and feels like good quality. The handle looks like bamboo or some other tropical wood and I would not be surprised if it worked loose after some use. The sheath itself is good but the hardware that holds the shoulder strap is not to durable looking.This is one of the better options in the $20 range, IMO. Tramontina also makes a good, inexpensive machete but most of them are carbon steel. **Q: Is the blade flexible?** A: The blade is somewhat flexible from side to side. It is nowhere near as flexible as carbon steel but will bend with modest pressure. It does not appear to bend at all in the blade/swing direction. **Q: does it retain sharpness?** A: For a functional machete, yes it does... I've used it for many tasks. From hacking up trees and shrubbery around the yard, to breaking trail in the Everglades. And it has not disappointed. I do, however, carry a Lansky - Blade Medic w/ me. So I have the tendency to keep all of my blades "always sharp". I do recommend this machete though...
