Phantom power can be applied to either the male or the female side of Phantom Blocker's XLR connector and will not reach the opposing XLR connector, protecting devices like computer interfaces that are connected to mixers with phantom power engaged. Review: Perfect phantom blocker - This unit does its job, does it well, and with zero issues so far. My inexpensive (kinda’j mixing console has “all or nothing” phantom across all the mic inputs, so I needed a phantom block for the one dynamic mic channel. I have a 150’ snake run, and as you can imagine the one time someone operated the switch on the lone SM58S, it made a heck of a bang, thankfully nothing bad happened to amp/speakers. I since got rid of the 58, put it back into the closet, and moved this block over to the wireless Lav mic receiver. I think I’ll get another one of these. Well made.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does this have an isolation transformer in it?**
A: I couldn’t find a schematic for the phantom blocker, but the triton fethead does not, and almost every design I have found for phantom blockers merely uses capacitive coupling and not a transformer.  Once I learned that the fethead blocks 48v as well, I switched from the phantom blocker to the fethead for my ribbon mics.

**Q: Does this protect from power suddenly being engaged? mfg says "connect in certain order" to "prevent transfer of an initial ac voltage burst" so....??**
A: This device is intended to block phantom power from microphones which do not require it, or that can be damaged by it, as in ribbon mics.  It is not intended to suppress the initial power up spikes which occur when powering up consoles, outboard gear, etc.  it is common practice to power up consoles, then outboard gear first, then amplifiers (including self-powered speakers) and so forth downstream equipment last.  Reverse the order when shutting down equipment.  Amps first, outboard gear second, console last.

**Q: What is this for?**
A: The device is used to block phantom power from an audio device such as a mixer or audio-to-usb converter so it does not reach an audio source device’s input that is not designed to have phantom power. Example: You want to connect an audio mixer with an active topology output to an audio to usb converter that has phantom power. The phantom power can damage the mixer.  Insert the Triton Phantom Power Blocker in the audio line between them to solve this problem.

**Q: Is this appropriate for permanent installations where the device I'm trying to protect is always hooked up, and I power up my mixer daily?**
A: I use mine at our church. To block phantom power from a bass guitar with active pickups. It has been plugged in now for over a year. No issues.
