Introduction to Genomics

The book is as expected. I appreciate the packaging, it was really careful and strong, so the book came undamaged.

This 3rd edition textbook is well suited for students taking an upper-division undergraduate course in genomics - in fact, I use it for precisely this purpose. It provides a solid background in the field, bringing in concepts essential for understanding modern genome-scale science that students rarely cover in their introductory biology coursework. However, genomics has been developing at a furious pace. The textbook was published in 2017, and in some areas it already feels dated. I still strongly recommend Lesk's 3rd edition Genomics because the fundamentals it covers will remain relevant for the forseeable future, but one hopes that a new edition is in process.

I am very disappointed. Unfortunately I had initially thought the first few pages were written well and had immediately started highlighting as it helps my brain retain information. I had just expected it was going to be great all the way through. Now I cannot return it. The author continuously uses terminology or acronyms that they never defined previously. They obviously assume the reader knows what they mean. If that was a true assumption, I wouldn't need to be reading the book. I am a healthcare provider and have some education in genetics and genomics but I found this book to be too annoying to read because I literally had to google the undefined terms littered throughout. Also if you are interested strictly in human genomics this one spends a great deal of time discussing other organisms from bacteria to flies.

Honestly think, with a few additions from the bioinfo book, this could be a complete book on Genomics and bioinformatics. I have read the bioinfo one and honestly this one is so much better!!
