Sally Weans from Night Nursing [Mitchell MSW, Lesli D., Mitchell, Lesli, Reinhold, Joanna] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Sally Weans from Night Nursing Review: Really helpful, kid LOVES it! - When I read the reviews before purchasing this book I found it amusing that a common thread was, essentially, "the illustrations aren't great, it reads a little strange, but my kid LOVES this book!" So I had to see for myself. Sure enough, my daughter loves this book! She especially loves the illustrations and all of the toys and objects throughout the book, so my advice is to consider a child's perspective when reading negative reviews. I bought the book a few months before I wanted to attempt night weaning to give my daughter time to conceptualize the process. My daughter was 14 months old when we started reading it and she quickly came to call it the "milk" book and requested to read it often. I substitute the language where needed to suit our vocab (i.e. change "nurse" to "have milk"). I successfully night weaned my daughter at 16 months, with the help of this book and the guidance of Dr. Jay Gordon's plan for night weaning (very gentle, well-paced). It only took three nights for my daughter to go from waking 2-4 times a night to nurse to sleeping 10-12 hours without waking at all, and with basically no crying. Being able to say lines similar to the book like, "Mommy will give you milk in the morning when the sun comes up" and "Now you're a big girl like Sally" was very helpful. My daughter is now 18 months old and still likes to read the "milk" book periodically. Thanks, Lesli Mitchell, for doing something not many other people have and for creating a helpful product! Review: Improved my quality of life - This book saved me!! I had to change the wording a little for my 20 month old because we had already day weaned and I was just needing to night wean but the little girl looks exactly like my baby and she loved it so much. While trying to night wean when she would wake up crying I would grab the book and read it to her again and it only took about 4 days before she was sleeping majority of the night and not asking for milk anymore! I get way more sleep now and Iโm so glad I found this!

Very helpful for my family
This book really helped me prepare my daughter for weaning, and helped give me a toddler-friendly language to use when talking to her about the process. I changed the words when I read it to her, because we used this book to wean her completely (not just from nursing at night, which is the focus of the book), but it was still a really good tool .She loved seeing pictures of the baby nursing! And she picked up on the fact that the little girl in the book is happy when she falls asleep without nursing. The only thing I would add about this book is that, honestly, it's nothing that you couldn't probably create yourself if you took the time. But if you are a busy mom like me and simply don't have that kind of time, this will be money well spent.

This book helped a lot
I bought this book because I was having a very hard time night weaning my 21 month old. I heard about another book and while I was buying that one I did a search and found this one. I thought it would be really home-spun and hokey, but it's not. Well it is a little but it's such a joy to read with my son, I looked past that very quickly. The author is a social worker who is not currently practicing (in order to be a stay at home mom). It's filled with practical advice (she describes her own issues night weaning her child) and an sweet story. The first time I read it to my son, I was surprised to discover how much it was like our own situation. The same night routine, the same toys lying on the floor, etc. I was delighted with the description of Sally's journey from birth to being able to not need nursing at night - that also was much like my son's and as a result he really related to the story. He asks for that book quite often and points at the mother in the story and says "mama", identifies the toys - we just have fun reading it together. My husband and I have been able to refer back to the story during our son's night wakings and he understands what we are trying to convey. I recommend this for anyone with a child that is having a hard time giving up the breast at night, and that can understand what the story is conveying.

Very helpful in helping my son learn to go back to sleep without mummys milk for the first time and contributed to finally a couple of nights of uninterrupted sleep at 28 months and a problem free night away for mummy (with zero crying on my son's part). He identified with Sally and it quickly became his favourite book. It was the only book I could find specifically for night weaning as I want to carry on in the daytime for a while.

My 2 yr old daughter loves this book and requests it often, though the first night I tried refusing to breastfeed at 4am and showed her the book, as a reminder of how Sally had to cope without nursies, she flung it across the floor... We're still working on it... I would say that the price is a bit high too, given the no frills presentation of the book.

This book really helped my toddler to wean off nighttime feedings.

Child likes it, but its really poor quality and so so ugly in every way. Not even well written. I hope at least it will make night weaning easier.
