Specifically height.** A: height 44 cm, diameter 11 cm **Q: Can 2 of these be stacked on top of each other?** A: If you can find a metal rod that's twice as long as the original one, don't have the model with me now, so I can't put a caliper to the OEM rod to tell you the diameter, but it is something easily purchased at a hardware store, or, you know, Amazon "Inanimate metal rod."You will also need to reinforce the base somehow, maybe screw the original one on a wider wood base or better yet, fabricate a replacement metal base for it. Just grab some soda can, melt them down, cast into a mold, machine to perfection, then drill a hole to fit the rod. Other than that, the pieces that represent the molecules should have no trouble hooking up as long as you want. Now if all that sounds crazy and difficult, try laying the model side way, so you can scotch tape the poles together, and the base issue also goes away, the base pairs should be strong enough to hold itself up. Who says DNA has to be vertical? Go visit Lawrence Hall of Science at Berkeley, California, they have a giant model of DNA on its side, you can climb on it. Good luck. **Q: How long does it take to assemble this model?** A: That's all going to depend upon the size of the group and their previous knowledge base.I introduced my students to the basic structure of DNA prior to bringing in the model components. On the day of building the model, I put the raw components (in the proper ratios) into plastic cups at each work station (that accommodates several students.) Then, I had the students each assemble a nucleotide, and then pair their nucleotide with another students nucleotide. Then the paired nucleotides were brought up front one at a time and assembled together to form the section of DNA. I did this several times on my own beforehand. The angles and pin/hole alignments can make a big difference in the ease of assembly.
