About the Startup Describe your products in 3 words. Smarter, Connected, Home How did you come up with the idea for this product? Following on from our iKettle and Smarter Coffee machine, the idea of FridgeCam emerged from our desire to have a smart fridge without needing to purchase a brand-new appliance. After doing some market research, we found that many people felt the same way, so we knew that our customers would too. Once the idea was born, we spent the following two years developing FridgeCam, from design to functionality. We wanted to ensure that we met all the key requirements were taken into consideration during this phase, which included; a sleek, retrofit and rechargeable product with a modular camera for high quality image capturing. We developed it with the future of food tech in mind, futureproofing it for systems like automatic replenishment. We’ve always created products with our customers’ needs and wants in mind and FridgeCam was launched with the same focus in mind. Everyone can relate to being in the supermarket and not knowing what they have in their fridge at home or whether or not items have expired and need replenishing. These are the problems that FridgeCam looks to solve, turning confusion at the grocery store into a thing of the past. What makes your product special? As a company, we believe that our products are special for a number of reasons! At the fraction of the cost of replacing their existing fridge for a new smart fridge in the market, users can retro-fit FridgeCam into any fridge, turning it into a smart fridge. Users can interact with FridgeCam from anywhere in the world, giving them full control, in and out of the home. This means that customers will no longer need to question whether or not they have specific items in their fridge, as they’ll always have the latest image of their fridge in their Smarter App. FridgeCam also allows users to add Best Before Dates to items, which prompts them before their items go out of date, so they can use them up in time. Writing shopping lists by hand are a thing of the past, as FridgeCam’s Shopping List feature allows users to add items to their shopping list, ready for their next shop. Customers can even ask Alexa to tell them what’s in their fridge, if their phone isn’t within reach, or use IFTTT to create useful applets and link up to their other smart home devices. With these features and more, FridgeCam s to help all users minimise their food waste forever, as well as save money by shopping smarter. What has been the best part of your experience? The best part of our start up experience has by far been our customers – they are fantastic! It’s been such an interactive journey with them giving us their feedback on features, suggesting improvements (many of which we’ve implemented!) and being completely transparent with us throughout. It’s become a community filled with support for our products, which ensures that we’re never out of touch with the people using our products in their everyday lives. It was something that we didn’t expect when founding the company, but it’s really been a positive and eye-opening experience for us!
