The reader works exactly as it should. You will need to be careful opening up the pack. A small driver disc is included in the package and I found much to my surprise I had damaged it because I didn't pay attention while opening myself!! No worries. If you do the same, the manufacturers website to download drivers is written on the package. (Nice touch and thank you!) One last thought is you should consider where you will place the device. You might need a USB extension. In my case I have a roll top computer desk and the cable is routed through the cable opening behind the monitor and through the side to the PC. The soft red light comes on when power is supplied which is always if the computer is turned on and unit is plugged in.

The smart card reader is great, at first I thought it wasn't going to work logging into the Air Force portal with Windows 10 but it does. Anyone using Windows 10 cannot use Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge to access DoD sites. You still need to use Internet Explorer. No additional software or drivers required.

Arrived 4 days later than guaranteed delivery date. Partially due to USPS, which claimed they couldn't get to the mailbox because it was blocked by snow, which it wasn't. The reason for 4 stars is the CD is a mini, which won't stay in my vertical CD tray on my desktop workstation, so I had to find the Windows 10 drivers on the Digi Scan website. Once the drivers were installed it works as advertised with a DoD Common Access Card.

This DigiScan USB CAC Smart Card Reader Desk Version is pretty cool, I haven't yet been able to get it to work for me, perhaps there is some specific firmware that is required for download or maybe my Windows 10 is refusing to work with it. I have not began to Telework from home, but with in the next 5 months I will need to figure out how to get it to work or purchase another device.

I believe this item is pretty much plug and play for Windows 7 and above, but I installed the driver CD prior to plugging it in. The drivers installed in just a few seconds, I plugged the device in, and plugged in my CAC card and I was good to go for access. Pros: Works as advertised Cons: None

My originally review was magically removed by Amazon for violating their terms despite all I said was that it failed to work with a HSPD-12 governed system. Therefore I am reporting this as part of a action tracking necessary to provide proof of actions. I purchased this device for home use to access my .mil email; however the software failed to load/install and the card reader was rejected by the system and not being HSPD (homeland security presidential directive) 12 complaint. If you are looking for a device to perform the same type action; I would ensure your system will work with this device before purchase.

Doesn't read DOD cards under Windows 10.

Received this morning. Works great, and no issues reading my DoD CAC. Little bit bulkier than I initially expected, but it is not going to fall over on my desk which is a HUGE plus in comparison to the slim ones with the little kick stands that I ALWAYS knock over. I received this product in exchange for an honest review.
