Speed® Square, 7 in. Aluminum Layout Square with Blue Book (S0101)

This square feels solid and well built. The metal is sturdy and the markings are clear and easy to read, which makes measuring and marking angles very quick and accurate. It sits flush against surfaces and gives reliable straight lines, which is important for clean cuts and proper alignment. The size is also practical for everyday use without being too bulky. Overall, a simple but very useful tool that does exactly what it’s supposed to do.

First time using the SWANSON Tool Co S0101 7-inch Speed Square and I’m impressed. It feels solid in hand, not cheap at all, and the markings are clear and easy to read. I like how versatile it is for quick measurements, straight lines, and angles. Made my cuts more accurate right away. Lightweight but durable enough for regular use. Definitely a handy tool to keep in my setup and I’ll be using it a lot more going forward.

It's that need for me. This tool is absolutely worth the money. The build quality feels solid, and it’s very easy to handle even for longer projects. It has become indispensable for working with wood, but it’s also versatile enough for other tasks around the workshop. A great balance of price, functionality, and durability — I’m very satisfied with this purchase. Fit me, light.

Very useful

Ease to use

I've owned several speed squares over the years (cheap knockoffs, bigger 12" versions, even some plastic ones), but the Swanson Tool Co. S0101 7 Inch Speed Square (Blue) is still the gold standard — it's the one I reach for almost every single time I need accurate, quick measurements on the jobsite or in my garage. After years of daily use, it's become one of those tools that feels indispensable. Build quality — built like a tank. Made of heavy-gauge aerospace aluminum alloy with a durable blue matte finish. It's tough — won't bend, warp, or rust even after getting banged around in a toolbox, dropped on concrete, or left outside in light weather. The black-filled gradations are sharp and easy to read against the blue background, no fading or wearing off. The edges are crisp for clean scribing, and the lip (heel) is perfectly square for reliable 90° marks. Features & versatility — does way more than a basic square. 7-inch size — compact enough to fit in a pocket or tool pouch, but large enough for most framing, roofing, and layout tasks. Built-in features of a framing square, tri-square, miter square, and protractor. Graduations for common, hip, valley, and jack rafters — perfect for roof pitches and angle cuts. Scribe notches for easy pencil marking. Degree scale for quick angle measurements. Comes with the famous pocket-sized Swanson Blue Book — a mini guide packed with rafter tables, conversion charts, and how-to info for roof framing. Super handy reference right on the tool. What I use it for Marking 90° cuts on lumber Checking square on frames, cabinets, decks Laying out stair stringers and roof rafters Finding angles for trim, brackets, or miter cuts Quick squaring of sheet goods or drywall As a saw guide for circular saws (the lip hooks over the board edge perfectly) Even basic measuring and scribing in tight spaces It's incredibly accurate out of the box — no need to calibrate or second-guess it. The combo of size, durability, and all-in-one functionality makes it perfect for carpenters, woodworkers, DIY homeowners, roofers, remodelers — anyone who builds or fixes things. Value is unbeatable. Usually around $10–15 (often on sale), and it lasts forever. With over 16,000+ reviews averaging around 4.8 stars, it's consistently one of the highest-rated and best-selling carpentry squares on Amazon for good reason. No gimmicks, no plastic parts that break — just a reliable, professional-grade tool at a homeowner price. If you're starting a tool collection, upgrading from a basic combo square, or just want the classic speed square that pros swear by, this Swanson S0101 is the one. It's earned a permanent spot in every tool belt I've owned. Zero complaints — highly recommend! 5 stars all day.

Best value for a tool ever. Used it so much

I mean what can I say. It works great and is made well.

This is not a replacement for an adjustable combination square and is not suitable for fine work, but for its intended use in framing work it is brilliant. The pencil notches for marking lines parallel to the edge of a board are very useful when ripping wood and the protractor feature is surprisingly usable (though again, not really for marking off 3.25 degrees!) The wide base makes this convenient for checking joints for plumb as it will stand on its own quite securely; this base also makes a really solid rest for when you want to mark a cutting line at 90 degrees - it hooks over the edge of a standard CLS 2x X timber perfectly and gives a far more positive result than a standard combination square (the full length of the side of the square being in contact with the timber really helps here too.) I have not yet used the square for the purpose for which I bought it (laying out rafters for my current project) but hope to do so soon - the accompanying "blue book" seems fairly comprehensive and I'm confident this square will make my life a lot easier when the time comes. Overall the square is well made from nice thick metal and very nicely finished. My only criticism would be that the black paint applied to the markings wasn't particularly thorough; as the markings themselves are deeply recessed into the metal there is no issue in practice. Edit: I have since used it to make rafters and very much more and it was excellent. Once you've figured out the desired roof pitch it's so simple to get every cut at the right angle - not just for rafters but things like barge boards, sheathing, lining, interior trim etc. Worth every penny.

One of the best!!!

practica y util , resistente e indeformable , buen producto gracias

Davvero fantastica la famosa "Speed Square" della Swanson. Realizzata in alluminio, robusta e leggera.

Bought this for my husband. Delivery was prompt and item was as expected. Hubby was so happy with the included blue book.
